AVG Pro for free?

Looks like it's free and the link is working as well. Thanks Brad!

As soon as I'm done dl'ing I'll install and see what the license thingy is all about. I see it's only for readers of computeractive and it must not be advertised to all and sundry...how dumb is that

I don't trust sites giving free downloads of paid products

I see "Avtivate AVG" under the "Information" menu... seems to be working fine without "activation" tho. Don't want to try ;) Can't find out how long it lasts - usually 2 years with Grisoft products. I love the downloading updates at 400kBps on my 4 meg line tho - they use akmai servers...

I read a bit of their page if that qualifies? :D

That activate option is to enter a new license key as far as I can see...

Seems to be a 1 year license, mine says it expires on 01/12/2008

Well it isn't as if Computer Active is some dodgy website or something... :p

nothin is free,I to will stick with the free version, besides what the diff anyway, its a virus protection system...like all the rest
As long as you dont go to porn sites and those eluded hacks and cracks,keygens...all you will get is troy's anyway....

The only real advantage of pro is being able to scan disks not part of your system (across a lan for example) and the high speed update server. I am very happy with free and will go back when my year is up.

Another advantage of a licensed copy is your updates are routed to a faster server. I actually did a test of this in my workshop when a large update was made available. The download speed on similar computers was 4kbs on the free license and 20kps on the paid license. Scanning over a network is nice but not many people have that requirement.

My AVG updates automatically every morning around 03:00 and I don't have to scan network locations (all the other PCs have AVG Free as well)...

Any particular reason for me to use the Professional version then?

No - even the free version is not slow on updates - occasionally it can be slow, but mine operates at around 50kbps on my 4 meg line.

I never get below 80KB/s  Strange...

Anyway, I'll stick to AVG Free and NOD32 :)

/me waits for someone to tell him how bad running 2 anti-virus is :D

Akamai points to local in my HOSTS file :).
