Hallo everyone :)
I would like to open this thread for those who own a AVM Fritzbox in Southafrica and may struggle with setting up the box or have question howto configure the one or other thing in the box.

http://www.fritzbox.eu/en/index.php

I´m originally from germany, so please forgive me my wrong spelling *blush*

In Germany ..and in whole Europe the Fritzbox is the most popular ADSL-modem-router-pbx with a market share of over 60%.

I´m grown up with a fritzbox and internet since 2001. Indeed I know a little bit about the box , what does not mean that I can give a full support.. but a little help might be allways possible.

if you have no ADSL but Iburst , HSDPA, or other modems you can use the box as NAT-router...thats a bit challenging but possible.

all this I have set up myself and it is running since 8month in SA.

I own three boxes in SA:
5124 http://www.fritzbox.eu/en/products/FRITZBox_Fon/index.php

this box is doing for me:

1st : Internet connection with Mweb as a provider and Telkom for ADSL4096/384 kbit/s

2nd:VOIP telephonie with two accounts: mweb broadbandtalk and www.sipgate.co.uk´

3rd: its my gateway, provides the firewall for my network and is the DHCP-server for all my PC

4th: it´s organising my ingoing and outgoing phonecalls ..via landline or VOIP

..and I can get accsess via https from where ever I am.. for example to check bandwidth consumption..

my 2nd box 7140:

http://www.fritzbox.eu/en/products/FRITZBox_Fon_WLAN/index.php

is in LAN-modus ( connected with LAN-cable to 5124) and providing wireless internet to all my PCs , repeater and wireless webcam and routing it to 5124.

additionally I have connected a 2nd 7140 as a Wireless REPEATER to extend the range on my property.. ( to browse the internet next to the pool  )

and I have pluged a cordless phone (gigaset) in the repeaterbox to make VOIP-phonecalls

what I have forgotten to say: Security ! wireless connections between PCs or inbetween master/slave repeater are all WPA2 and additonal a MAC-filters are enabled.. so I feel save..

ALL THIS I HAVE SET UP MYSELF AND IT IS WORKING SINCE 8 MONTH :) in Southafrica

mit freundlichen gruessen

to admins: I´ve started this thread because the frizbox is not that common in SA jet..but that might come ...and in VOIP because simple VOIP configuration is one of the highlight of the box..if you have a better place ,please move it

@blieni: If I understand correctly, some of the Fritzboxes have USB support and can be connected to external USB drives, flash drives, printers etc. Do you know if it is possible to connect other driverless USB devices such as cell phones or 3G/HSDPA/EVDO modems (E220, Neotel phone etc.) to the USB port and then share the connection wirelessly via this router?

@Yotch: yes the new avaliable FB (fritzboxes ) have a USB-host. at the moment this plug will support HDD 60GB for Music or data..all with ftp or build in mediaserver.
..and like you mentioned printer.
cellphones are not supported jet..but if you like to connect the internet via HSPDA you configure the FB as NAT and plug HSDPA-modem in LAN1.

AVM is develloping new firmware all the time and it it is free for everybody. http://www.avm.de/en/
http://www.avm.de/en/Update-news/index.php3

USB-(skype)phones does not work because the box has 2analoge plugs and if you have 7170 an additional ISDN S0 bus.. so enough options to plug phones in.

I´ve swapped from skype to VOIP or better said to sip-protocoll based phonecalls and have the advantage to use standard phones like gigasets or my old telkom-ananloge from 1995 .. :D ..all managed by FB-pbx
in my case :
broadband talk from mweb ..for call inside SA and SA cellphones

and

sipgate: all other phonecalls www.sipgate.co.uk

my telkom-landline-calls I only use.. if ADSL fails and the FB makes an automatic fallback to landline ( 3-8 Rand telkom costs per month ;) )

Hi Ceasar

what does it mean "no succsess"

is it a 7170 Annex A international /english ?

7170

Thanks for responding.
Yes it's a 7170 Annex a international version and replacing a Billion voip modem/router.
Using the original wiring from Fritzbox. Shouldn't be an issue. Telkom splitter and go direct to the modem entry, just like with the Billion.
Changed VPI and VCI to 8 and 35, can't find a MTU setting in the FB settings.
If I hook everything up with these settings, it's trying to make a DSL connection without success. Should I talk to Telkom that I'm changing my router?
Can you make a screenshot of your settings, with blocking your user name and password off course?

Regards, Caesar

Hi,
I have a Fritzbox 7270 with the newest international Firmware and I can't receive any calls from my analog line to the FB. I can make calls with any connected phone but the FB does not recognize the incoming calls. I heard that the Voltages of the ringing signal in SA is less than in Germany, maybe a possible reason. Does anybody have the same problem and a hint to solve it. A request with AVM came with a disappointing answer.
Regards
Andreas
