Avoid Loot.co.za when purchasing PC components.

I wasn't planning on posting my experience until after the issue was resolved, but I figured the sooner this gets out the better.

I purchased over R5000 worth of components from Loot for a new PC build. I figured that if I ordered all of the core components in one place, that if I had an issue it would be more likely to get resolved quickly... I was very very wrong.

I received I DoA MSI Motherboard from them in late October. I only discovered it 2 days later, and returned it to them straight after that. It took a little over 2 weeks to get a replacement after returning the faulty board to them myself.

Although the replacement appeared to be unopened, upon removing it from the bag, it was absolutely disgusting. There was a sticky residue all over the board, finger marks all over it, so needless to say I submitted a return on this one too, less than 48 hours of receiving it.

This time things didn't go so well. A week passed and I heard nothing, after a few phone calls I was eventually told on Tuesday that the staff member had my replacement board in her possession (she later backtracked on this statement). It turned out that after more than a week, they still had my faulty motherboard in their possession and had done nothing about it.

So now supposedly they've made a "replacement order", and allegedly some sort of "override" but they refuse to give me timeframe.

So this is where I'm at right now more than 2 months after the original components were ordered. I thought of requesting a refund, but judging by the way they've handled the process so far, I'm skeptical I'd ever see it.

I don't know how I managed to secure 2 bad boards in a row, but I guess I'm just unlucky.

I'll be sure to post updates as they unfold, but this is where the situation stands as of now.

Loot is ok to good for books on average or things like bosch which is delivered from JHB. For anything else I would not bother.

I have received a refund from them in the past no problem. Also bought a Mobo from them no issue, must say their response time is generally pretty slow but besides Takealot I haven't received great service from anyone else.

The reason I went with them is because the CPU was vastly cheaper than anywhere else. The other components were fairly reasonably priced as well.

I was going to claim a refund, but then I got cold feet knowing it would have to be paid by EFT and that they take over 4 days to even respond to emails if at all of late.

This is why I always buy pc components from Wootware, their service is excellent.
I ordered the Graphics card from them. Would absolutely have ordered the entire system from them if their stock wasn't so limited that the time. Awesome company to deal with, and their packaging is top notch.

You should have looked at titan-ice as well.

I wanted to stick with Cape Town companies, mistakenly thinking I would have more recourse when things go wrong.

Despite having free returns, I still made the trip myself both times to return the boards to them to try to resolve the issue faster.

I've been a loot customer for many years now, since the lockdown the service quality has been on a steady decline.

Lesson learnt. I just hope they send me the replacement board soon so I can put this mess behind me.

Quick update. As of last Friday my replacement board was "Being Packed" and reflected as "Shipped" on early Monday.

Only problem is, they're using a new courier company that is apparently untraceable by even the Loot staff themselves.

Your order has been sent with a new courier partner, however tracking isn't yet available. But no need to worry, if you would like more information on the status of your delivery, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Contrary to the above. They couldn't give me any information regarding the location of my package. :(

I do prefer buying stuff in stores when this kind of thing happens. I can go directly to the person who sold it to me and harass them. Generally face to face interaction gets taken more seriously.

I'm told the replacement board arrived today, thankfully. Will check it and test it out when I get home this evening.

This has been quite an experience and left me with endless issues due to missing the timeframe I had.

I don't blame Loot for the 2 defective boards in a row I received, even they couldn't have foreseen that. But the way they handled the whole process with a non-commital, no-care attitude as if they were doing me some sort of favour by even accepting the return is disgraceful.

In the more than 8 years I've been dealing with Loot, I have never experienced anything like this.

Gotta add - avoid Loot.co.za overall. After sales support is non-existent. TV delivered with dead pixels. It's been two weeks - no comms except to say it was received.
Ordered my bosch gas stove from loot and it was delivered the next business day without issues.

Git Gud?

They will eventually look into it, but there's a good chance they've only just sent it back to the supplier now.

They don't give a turnaround time in their terms, so they literally have unlimited time to process it.

Wait until something goes wrong with your gas stove and you have to send it back.

That's when the real fun starts.

Yup. I've ordered from them periodically, smaller orders and didn't have an issue.

After sales is where you're going to hurt. They were slightly more expensive than takealot but figured I should support the little guy. Now I will pay more at takealot coz returns are super easy.

Yea Loot, Raru and Evetech is on my no go list. Options are to live without it or pay more, but not ordering from them again, ever! Much as I hate it, Takealot has been a joy to deal with and Geewiz is one of the best, not a single hassle since forever.

Agreed. Bought 1 or 2 things long ago and was fine. Placed an order for 2 items 22 Jan and after a week got a notice that one of the items was out of stock and they then refunded for the one item. I am however still waiting for the other item to arrive almost 3 weeks later.
