Axxess False Advertising!

NO! Is no one reading right?

This is NOT on the Express+ account, therefore you have 384k speeds 24/7. Axxess is BS'ing us.

Have any of you actually read this on the axxess website. It's next to the BIG exclamation mark on the top of each page

Normal Uncapped
These accounts allow up to a maximum of your ADSL Account speed if your Telkom ADSL line supports it.
Eg: If you buy a 384Kbps account and have a 4096Kbps Telkom ADSL Line, you will only get speeds up to 384kbps.

Express+
These accounts allow speeds up to 10 Mbps (After Hours + Weekends) if your Telkom ADSL line supports it.
Eg: If you have a 384Kbps Account and have a 10Mbps Telkom ADSL Line, you will get speeds up to 10Mbps (After Hours + Weekends)

Honest and transparent information supplied by axxess. You don't see all this information on other ISPs website that resell IS bandwidth. So NO axxess is not "BS'ing us". You just to lazy to read the information that is supplied to you.

Just so you know the 384k account for R196 is limited to 384k. It WILL NOT go to 4mb after hours. That said its still possible to get that usage. Let me explain......

A 384k line will get a MAX download speed of 320k [40kbs] and 100k [11-12kbs] upload. That is the max a 384k line can go.

The R196 Uncapped account is limited to 384k download and 128k upload. So if you would to use this account on a 4mb line you will be able to get 384k[48kbs] download and 128k[16kbs] upload and you will be limited by the account.

So so when you use the R196 384k uncapped account you are actually limited by the line cause it can't exceed 320k download and 100k upload. But now you use the same account on a 4mb line you are limited by the account which is 384k download limit and 128k upload limit.

----
Just a note:
----
384k Line:
-
Max download speed: 320k
Max upload speed: 100k
------------
4mb line:
-
Max Download speed: 3500k [3.5mb]
Max upload speed: 420k
-

Uncapped accoun limits:
-
384k Lite account: 384k[48kbs] download and 128k[16kbs] upload.
4096k Lite account: 4096k[512kbs] download and 512k[64kbs] upload.

You will note although you have a 384k line you won't download more than 40kbs and if you have a 4mb line you won't download more than 435kbs. Its cause the lines reach max speed as explained above.

cavedog, if I were to use your stats (ie the line is doing 420kbps up and down, I make the following):

Code:
Speed (kbps)	420
Speed (kB/s)	52.5

Days	30
Hours	720
Minutes	43200
Seconds	2592000

Using 1024
Traffic (kB)	136080000
Traffice (MB)	132890.625
Traffic (GB)	129.776001

Using 1000
Traffic (kB)	136080000
Traffice (MB)	136080
Traffic (GB)	136.08

or

Code:
Speed (kbps)	420
Speed (kB/s)	52.5

Days	31
Hours	744
Minutes	44640
Seconds	2678400

Using 1024
Traffic (kB)	140616000
Traffice (MB)	137320.3125
Traffic (GB)	134.1018677

Using 1000
Traffic (kB)	140616000
Traffice (MB)	140616
Traffic (GB)	140.616

we are still some way short of 153GB.

Then using theoretical numbers (up and down)
Code:
Speed (kbps)	512
Speed (kB/s)	64

Days	31
Hours	744
Minutes	44640
Seconds	2678400

Using 1024
Traffic (kB)	171417600
Traffice (MB)	167400
Traffic (GB)	163.4765625

Using 1000
Traffic (kB)	171417600
Traffice (MB)	171417.6
Traffic (GB)	171.4176

That means to get 153GB, your overheads are 10% if running 24/7 for 31 days. I would love to know that guys setup to have the hardware and software that stable. 153GB allows next to no room for problems.

Which is why I would question 153GB. From what I have read, IS shapes on total usage no matter protocol. Which says to me that it should be impossible to get even that close to theoretical download given the 20% limit.

If these lines are not at some stage able to use full line speed (ie a 384k account going upto 10Meg); then the numbers must surely be fishy.

I'm happy to announce I just cancelled my Axxess uncapped express account. It only took me two days to realise what a mistake I made by going with them in the first place. I've downloaded only 10gigs and I'm already shaped to hell and back. I had to change to my cappable account just to post.

Mweb here I come.

What was wrong with your Uncapped Express Account if I may ask?

Ok that is on a 384k line. Now calculate the speed on a 384k account on a 4mb line.

384k download = 48kbs + 128k upload = 16kbs
Total up and down would then be - 64kbs

64*60 = 3.84mb a minute
3.84*60 = 230.4mb a hour
230.4*24 = 5.529GB per 24 hours [I rounded this number]
5.529*30 = 165.87 per 30 days.

This would be the absolute MAX the account can do when used on a 4mb line. Why is it more. Cause the account limits are 384k down [48kbs download speed] and 128k up [16kbs upload speed] So when using this account on a 4mb line you should see a slight increase of speed compared to using it on a 384k line since the 384k line is max 320k down [40kbs download speed] and 100k up [12kbs upload speed].

That said. I had use one of these accounts on a 4mb line before and it does sometimes burst. It burst for like 5min then its slow. So the top user could be using the 384k uncapped lite account on his 4mb line.

So here would be my guess.

The top oke has a 4mb line and 2 pc's. 1 for downloading only and one for normal compuing. Dialing a pppoe connection on the download pc and download the whole time non stop. While he uses a capped or another uncapped account on his normal computing pc.

*I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just saying that it could some how be possibe. Ohh and Axxess is not my isp. :-)*

.

Besides that, they advertised an unshaped account which is clearly not unshaped. During the day they shape you down to 20kb/s on p2p.

Year-Month 2010-09
Total MB Used This Month 19916.18 MB
Average MB Used Per Day 1659.68 MB
Account Status Full Access

i have started to experience bad shaping on p2p only getting about 2 or 3kb during the day

while im not with axxess it is the same internet solutions uncapped 384 package ...(using on my 384 line )

anyone know of a way to check if a line is being shaped as speed test does not reflect shaping on other ports ?

Okay, now that we've cleared up the "but it can burst to 4mbps!" bs, it's time to let Cavedog know that shaping occurs.

Yes, you've made a VERY valid point, that if no shaping occured it's possible.

They've hardly downloaded a thing, and yet they're shaped into the ground. So, then, how is it he bypassed it?

P2P to HTTP via some leech site? Pretty sure all protocols will get shaped.

The worst part of this is neither Axxess or IS will respond to questions about the shaping scheme. The details don't appear of either website either. I think they're definitely running a shady operation here.

Ok thanks for being rude. I just explained how the lines work.

Ok now if you know everything then why don't you enlighten us a bit then? Cause this is causing so much debate I bought a R199 384k uncapped lite account to see what it does.

I have a 4mb line and I have used 1.5GB in 1 hour so far. Yes for some reason I'm getting full speed on my 4mb line. As I said this account can burst some times and that could cause the top user in that list to have such high usage.

Which account are you using. The Axxess Uncapped Unshaped one in question doesn't cost R199, so it can't be that one.

Yes I have that same account but just with another ISP. Its a plugg account but its the same type of account that all the ISP's resell

that is when you live on the exchange, if you live more then 1km from the exchange then you would not have that kind of speed. i get 9k out of mine max, otherwise it kills my download rate. 9k upload then my download maxes...i know its in theory but that is with alot of things in your favour

btw people will get that tipe of gigs when they download via http...high end users on p2p sites. private and international sites. they have what you call seedboxes wich they have for uploading and downloading at very fast speeds. the stuff they download gets stored on the servers which they can download via http. i know a couple of guys who does that ;) http gets shaped the least. and during the day its almost the whole time full speed
