 It has now been nearly 4 days and there is still no end in sight for the failure of the Axxess email server. (Heaven alone knows how many important emails I have lost!)

The support number is an absolute farce, it rings and nobody answers - and well, sending an email is pointless - since they cannot even receive their own emails!

So, dear Axxess - do you think you could perhaps put up a notice on your website to actually inform your paying customers as to what the problem is? Or is that too much to ask?

I guess you'll get round to it sometime this year - but then thankfully you're automatically suspending my account on the 31st of October and I, just as you haven't bothered to do anything about your mail server, am not going to bother to sending the "continuation of service form".

Have to agree that the mail server problem has hit them at the worst possible time. I'm still considering what to do end of the month and they are certainly not doing themselves any favours. On the other hand, they stood out for the great service in the past so a mishap or two is forgivable.

well didnt even know, had problems with email but thought it was a problem with my reregistration of my domain. Well done axxess, u impress me yet again ! They really should use that thing they have called a website and put up notices for their many users, oh well nov 1 is near and that means no more axxess for us anyway 2 darn expensive.

My mail has been working fine since Saturday.
They were down most of Friday last week.

Ok it's rather slow, but has been that way for a few months now.

Hi Sig_ZA, can you actually receive emails? The pop server connects fine, there is just no email coming through, even the ones I sent as a test. I'm NOT going to phone, emailing support should be sufficient

Are you guys capped? Maybe thats the reason you cant access email, its hosted on a international host?

Hi Clipse, thanks for the interest shown to those in distress. Axxess does have an US mail server, which crashed last week. Even though the server has been restored and I've gone through a number of email iterations/irretations with support it's still not working :-(

PS No, I've not been capped, Axxess gave me an extra gig or two, whether intentionally or not, it makes up for the frustration ;-)

Same problem here. Entire hosted domain down since Thursday. At first connection refused, and now username / password not accepted. Absolutely no word from Axxess. Support permanently unavailable by telephone, no response to e-mails.

I moved to Axxess based on excellent reports of their attitude and helpfulness. This has not been my experience with them. Took them a week to set up an ftp account for my webhosting because they culdn't figure out how. Take a hint, when I call the helpdesk I don't want to hear that it's an interesting problem and you are stumped. Now the e-mail debacle. And not to mention that they are STILL advertising 30gig account for R349. Methinks they are in the process of imploding.

Well no more. Goodbye Axxess.

This is really sad to hear. We were all so incredibly impressed with Axxess for so long. I actually wondered how long that would last. There is absolutely no excuse for bad customer service.

I'm really really glad I decided to go with Web Africa. The best thing about Web Africa is that they have such a great presence here at MyADSL. They are always very quick to answer questions and give advice.

I really do hope Axxess will sort their problems out and fast.

Hey all!

Thanks for your input, glad to hear I'm not the only one who is frustrated.

I am not capped either - I still have a good 2 gig left for the month.

I have only been with axxess for 3 months so I wouldn't be able to comment on their service prior to this incident

I'm having a tough time trying to decide which provider I'm going to go with come November 1.

sigh ... I've been suffering from option-fatigue. Eventually I've decided to go with one of the major players, which is Datapro. Now that the playfields has been levelled out I'm looking at things like admin systems. Imho Datapro has the most flexible billing system of all the ISPs being discussed here. For instance, they have a "soft cap" that you set yourself, and if you want more for the month, you only pay pro-rata for whatever you use @ R75/GB (ex VAT).

Since the all-you-can-gorge-yourself-on for next2nothing is something of the past now, I challenge the other ISPs to show me if they can come up with a better billing system.

PS I'm not discussing the whole Saix vs IS OR the "have another wack for old times sake" of SAOL here. Just plain old 3GB pay for what you use ....

Well, I tried to explore that route, but the indefferent response on a sales query changed my mind about WA. I wanted to open my account for 1 Nov but the shopping cart still showed the old pricing. On quering this, they simply told me it will be ready on 1 Nov, which equals no more ADSL connection for me since Axxess terminates on 31 Oct. My reply email was never answered ... I'm not one to slate people, just want the truth to be known

Now I know why my emails are unanswered. I thought it was juts me.

They are up and running again for me. Seems like new software as the webmail looks far better.

Receiving through POP = working.
Sending through SMTP = working.

Working since Saturday. :)

Well they have been very quick to respond to my two queries. Less than 1/2 in both cases.

They are a little vague on when you will be able to apply for the new accounts, and I quote: "will be available in a few days". Got this at about 16:30.
24th today, so they still have some time.

I know they have had a rough time past couple of days. Had some problems with a site I want them to host for me.
Their email server went down last week. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though cos of their good rep. These things happen.
As someone stated earlier, just a bad time to be happening to them now.
But heck, my cars head gasket went last week, who has control over these things any way..

Hi Jack, if you want to host locally don't bother with anyone except Hetzner. They have superb admin and technical systems and unequaled response from their support team. During the last five years I've never had a single problem, neither on the hosting nor the email. Save yourself a lot of trouble and host with them :)

PS No, I don't work for them, just a very satisfied customer...

I have to second that. Been with Hetzner for about 5 years as well, and no probs with hosting or e-mail.
