Axxess or Openweb for uncapped account

I need some advice on choosing between these two ISPs. Telkom is upgrading my line this week to 4096kbps from 512kbps, and I am thinking of changing to either the Axxess Uncapped Express+ (Fibre), or Uncapped Express - 4Mbps After Hours from Openweb.

The main differences between the accounts as far as I can see:
Price: Openweb is R1299, Axxess R999
Speed: Both run at 4096kbps after 8 and on weekends, but during the day it seems Openweb runs at 256kbps, and Axxess at 192kbps.
Both say they allow P2P/torrents.

Can someone who has either of these accounts tell me their opinion, is it worth it to switch from my current uncapped account (an account from Openweb which is costing me R1200)
Do you really ever get these 4mb speeds after hours?
I am at work between 8 and 5, so the slow speeds during the day don't really bother me.

I have been with Axxess since June 2009. ( Express + Fibre 384) One seldom gets the full 4mb speed. I have hit that once or twice for a short period of time. I think this is also due to what you are downloading and from who you are downloading from. (Torrents and P2P etc). My only grudge is that I do not think that Axxess have anybody on this forum to answer any questions. IMHO I would say go with Axxess. You could always move on after a month or so.

In that case, get the Axxess uncapped.

Thanks. Yes, I am leaning towards Axxess as well, if only for the cost. I have noticed that on my 512 account I can get only close to the max speed from most torrents, about 45 to 47KB/s, what are the average speeds I can expect from a 4MB line?
Something I just noticed browsing the Axxess website is their list of Top 10 users, 10 guys downloaded about 7.5TB??
I will have to invest in hard drives to get close to that:p

Hard to say, speeds are normally all over the place. I run DU meter and it seldom gives you a nice flat line. I seldom get good speeds on torrents and P2P. But when you are uncapped - who cares!!! :) :) :)

I saw those top 10 lists as well - I wonder what those guys download. I am only hitting the 75G mark!! ;)

I agree, also not having to worry about things like a cap and local vs international traffic is very nice. :)
Do you at least get close to the 4mb speed with normal http downloads though?
I don't want to change my line and ISP, only to find out that I am only getting a few kb/s improvement.
Faster p2p and torrents would be a bonus, but not necessary, if at least the normal downloads are much faster.

I get through IDM around 350KB/s download speed from Rapidshare...
My average downloads quota per month is around 200GB

Jip, windows updates and the like are full speed. I dont do much local - wish I could get an invite to some local torrent sites (HINT) (HINT) (ON MY KNEES) ;) ;) Demonoid and PBay keep me happy though :) :)

Yes that is a bit better than the max of 52KB/s that I usually get from Rapidshare :)

BTW, are Openweb and Axxess the only ISPs that offer these accounts (throttled during business hours, full 4MB after hours)?

My advice is to wait just a few weeks before committing to anything.

I dont see any major changes comming into effect with the launch of Seacom. I reckon all the ISPs are going to be watching each other to see where they can undercut/price each other. It will be a slow decline in prices..... Thats my 2 cents worth!! :erm:

I've also signed up with Axxess (Uncapped Express + 384) since beginning of July. I'm very pleased so far because I get same speed on my 4mb as I did with Telkom Internet. My only gripe is that I occasionally have to reboot the modem. However, that is a minor issue.

I have read on this forum that it is necessary to do this now and again - I dont know if it really helps much. Maybe some of the Grand Masters or Geeks can shed some light on the matter.....

Just to clarify, the throttling between 8am and 8pm is all done on Axxess or IS side right? I don't have to reset my router or disconnect and login again to get the 4mb speeds after hours?

If you go over the 10 day Rolling threshold then you are automatically throttled (For 384 its 192kB/s). There is no intervention from your side. Your internet will always be on - but throttled in the daytime.
I would suggest leaving your modem on at all times. I have only reset mine to see if I could see any difference in operation. I still need proof to say that this does help with improving download speeds when things are going a bit slow

Oh and by the way, I see there is someone by the name of Axxess on this forum. (I picked that up in a search this evening) Not too sure if he is still active or not. (on the forum that is!!! :p )

About this 10 day rolling threshold thing, there is something I don't understand.

According to the Axxess website, if you buy the 384 account, then you are throttled during the day to 192kb/s. This restriction only applies during 8am to 8pm, after that and during weekends you get 4mb/s.
So what exactly is the purpose of this 5gb rolling threshold? From what I understand, if you go over this threshold, your speed will be limited but not disconnected, but you are limited anyway during the day to 192kb/s?

Will they limit your speed lower than 192kb/s during the day with this threshold?

EDITED:
Ah I see now, you start on 384kb/s, then when you go over the threshold, you go down to 192kb/s right?
