So i just found out that axxess started throttling my 10mb line down to under 3mb. No warning or notice. I average around 280gb of data a month. No dstv and all content is streamed. No downloading either.

I clearly questioned the sales rep before I signed up about throttling video streams and she assured me that they don't. this was made very clear as i was moving over from mweb. At least mweb gave me notice and a warning prior to throttling.

I was told by the call center agent that Axxess does not need to inform there clients as its on their website and fine print. He basically told me, sorry for u, but home uncapped users are being aggressively throttled as they have more clients now and network is taking strain. So this becomes my problem as they just don't care.

I'm looking at changing ISP now as Axxess does not work for me.Can you guys give me a few suggestions on which isp to move over to.

I've got quiet a few of my family members who also joined axxess on my recommendation. They also have the same setup. we all need to move.

IMHO CW Xtreme capped with daytime uncapped is the best account on the market at the moment.

Heard some good things about Vox.

Used to be with Vox but left after the 5th time being capped even though I still had data (back in the days of 50GB FP + BO), and many many DNS issues aswell, although, this was 3 years ago.

They are the best of the rest though IMHO.

It doesn't have to do with Seacom being down (if you are streaming from international sources) ?

Some interesting routing but no sign of throttling with axxess capped on my 10MB line:

Ping: 26ms
Download: 9.53Mbps
Upload: 0.78Mbps

This is what Axxess replied with when I complained about exactly the same thing

:wtf:

Please note that our home uncapped services are managed according to the last 7 days usage projected to 30 days as well as the available capacity on the network at all times Meaning that the 10mbps service is allocated with a threshold of 120GB for 30 days, which works out to 4GB per day but management is determined by the last 7 days usage of the service in terms of the threshold (last 7 days usage projected to 30 days) If the usage of the service for the last 7 days is close to or exceeds the daily usage of the threshold provided for the service, the account is then managed down to 50% of the account speed.

The Speed Threshold per account speed are:

  • 1Mbps 20GB
  • 2Mbps 40GB
  • 4Mbps 80GB
  • 8Mbps 100GB
  • 10Mbps 120GB
  • 20Mbps 200GB
  • 40Mbps 400GB

Love this threat:

Any user that is found attempting to bypass or circumvent the Axxess Protocol Manager will be suspended and could have their service cancelled."

 Therefore, if you do download a very large game from steam today and tomorrow that causes the "projected usage" to show that you will exceed the eventual threshold - at which point the speed is dropped to roughly 3Mb/s. In 2 years of using their service and often exceeding these limits, the line was never so slow - this recently changed, I am sure of it.
:crying:

In Oct I bought Fallout 4 and my usage for that month was 130GB!!! I'm on MWEB. MWEB does not care if I download a game from Steam. I don't use my Axxess account for that, so I can't comment.

Been a few months since I've switched to a 300GB Capped account that rolls over; I've not had any bandwidth woes whatsoever. I think the moral of the story is, don't buy Uncapped unless you know your usage complies with their "provisos".

Hi gregs82,

It is our goal to protect the integrity of our network, in order to provide the best possible internet experience for all of our clients using all Uncapped services and as such we reserve the right to manage uncapped users who are deemed to be causing an unusually large burden on the network. We are committed to managing our network in a way that allows us to provide all users with the best experience possible, however we cannot guarantee that the allocated capacity will always be available.

Home Uncapped services are best suited for average home users who make little to no use of high bandwidth services such as NNTP, Peer-to-Peer and Torrents (and similar but not limited to). Home Uncapped services are proactively managed by the Axxess Protocol Manager.

Home Uncapped services are managed according to the last 7 days usage projected to 30 days as well as the available capacity on the network at all times.

There are predefined thresholds set and when exceeded the account speed will be managed down to a maximum of 50% of the account speed. Should the demand on the network exceed available capacity these thresholds may be managed more aggressively by the Axxess Protocol Manager and differ to the table below.

The thresholds per account speed are:
Speed Threshold
1Mbps 20GB
2Mbps 40GB
4Mbps 80GB
5Mbps 80GB
8Mbps 100GB
10Mbps 120GB
20Mbps 200GB
40Mbps 250GB
50Mbps 250GB
100Mbps 300GB
200Mbps 400GB
1000Mbps 1000GB

Thank you.

It's really about time for MyBroadband to do an article comparing FUP rules for various ISPs.

Telkom Internet got a lot of complaints on thos forum, and the thresholds at the time (a few price reductions ago) were *much* higher than this on comparable products (e.g. 180GB on 4Mbps), and for the past year the throttling policy is much more lenient (e.g. on 4Mbps after 180GB excl. NightSurfer you would be throttled to 2Mbps between 19h00 and 21h00).

These thresholds are crazy low ...

Good price, but unfortunately shaped. Telkom's latency is no where near VOX when it comes to crucial stuff.
Which Vox product are you comparing here?

(Note that Telkom Internet has some disadvantages here, as they are effectively required to buy from Telkom Wholesale, buy most of Telkom Wholesale's capacity, and have no influence over how it is delivered/routed, so Telkom Wholesale optimises for cost-to-them+redundancy, not lowest latency)

Never used vox so probably true. Not everybody needs the best latency though, latency wise I find them fine. Only online game I play is CSGO and for that my latency does not differ from other players.
