Hi all

Im currently on an Axxess Uncapped Express(384) R899 account and would like to know the pro's and con's compared to the mweb R899 offering?
In effect i would be saving R413 per month (ADSL line rental from Telkom) if I went with MWEB.
I do lots of torrent downloading 'after hours' and general surfing during the day.

You might find it better. During the day you are shaped with p2p but you still receive far more than you would on the express account AND normal browsing is not affected. At night the speeds are slower due to the shaping but fluctuate up to line speed. Over time it averages out.

If your a normal person, looking to surf, game, mail etc with downloading in between, it's fine. If your looking purely for a 24/7 download connection at full speed, then no. ( But remember you didn't have this before either! )

Honest opinion, try it. You could cancel the express, sign up for a month and a half (reason being they prorata half month and cancel straight away *recall the one moth cancellation with mweb*) and probably still be under the cost of the express account for a month.

Worst you'll lose is one month and my experiance so far has been better overall on the 4Mb Mweb than the 4Mb express+ which is higher than your 899 account.

Just wish the damn bfbc2 patch could be automated so it would be down by the time I get home today :D

I've tried MWEB in the day last week. It was fast enough. Line bursts to 440KB/sec and HTTP can go (almost) as fast as a/h and that's 350-440KB/sec.

I don't do P2P though or news so I can't speak for those protocols.

You'll be moving from 384kbps to 4 meg, during the day :) go for it! But sadly torrents are useless for me on Mweb (384) you might want to stay away for that reason alone... I'm hoping things will get better when everyone has leeched the internet dry and only getting new releases and are over the novelty of uncapped....

You can do an excess of 1.2 terabyte on a 4 meg line provided that the shaper is behaving nicely.

yup but not on these express accounts. they shaped during the day so therefore you loose out on 12hrs a day on ave & can only do about 20-22gigs monday to friday & 38gigs during saturday & sunday per day.

but you'd be better off sticking to your Axxess uncapped express than going with any of these new uncapped accounts as you will never be able to do this sort of bandwith on them :p

I moved from the same account to MWEB, I have done the same about of torrents I always did on Axxess on Mweb (about 170GB this month so far). Torrents are fine in my opinion.
It has had a few drops sometimes which was never on Axxess, but all-in-all I'd switch again given the choice, it's considerably cheaper.

I was playing XBox 360 Live (Fifa 10) via my Axxess Uncapped Express without any problems after hours, (i) can the same be said of MWEB Uncapped 4meg?
(ii) how do i go about switching from Axxess to MWEB?
(iii) will it be a major pain to switch back from MWEB to Axxess if im not happy with MWEB? Will i have to port my ADSL from MWEB back to Telkom as well?

I'm on Axxess 384k Uncapped Express + as well. Was thinking of switching to MWeb 4mbps Uncapped, so I can have the 4mbps during the day. It's just that the Axxess account is fully unshaped from 7pm to 8am during the week and on weekends, plus I get my full line speed or 4mbps, and when the Telkom upgrades come, I'll be getting full 10mbps line speeds at night.....

So I'm still undecided....maybe switch to MWeb for now...and when my line gets upgraded from 4mbps to 10mbps, then switch back to Axxess 384K Uncapped Express +. I work from 9am to 6pm, so I'm not here during the day to actually use my internet when it is throttled to 192k and shaped. When I get home from work at about 7pm, my access has switched over to 4mbps unshaped, which I'm happy with. The savings would be nice though.

(i) - I play on American servers all day and the ping varies from 330-450. Always playable really, once in a blue moon you get a spike, which can suck - but I got that on Axxess too.
(ii) - Login to your Axxess CP and cancel, you can still get in for May I think, but you'll need to be quick. Then just sign-up on mweb.co.za - mine was activated in about 30min after sign up.
(iii) - You'll probably have to pay 2 months of mweb in advance, I think you can cancel after one month and get a refund for the second if you are not happy.
