Axxess Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Hello, Axxess!

What is your current policy on "Uncapped" ADSL? What and when you shape? What is limit (in GB) when "unlimited" user become shaped? What percentage of speed people have after shaping?

Hi Vincent

Our AUP currently states:

"It is our goal to protect the integrity of our network, in order to provide the best possible internet experience for all of our customers using all Uncapped services and as such we reserve the right to manage uncapped users who are deemed to be causing an unusually large burden on the network. We are committed to managing our network in a way that allows us to provide all users with the best experience possible, however we cannot guarantee that the allocated capacity will always be available.

Axxess Uncapped / Uncapped ADSL
The Axxess Protocol Manager is used to provide all home uncapped users on our network with the best possible internet experience. During peak network times, we give priority to real time services (such as browsing, email, streaming etc), high bandwidth services such as NNTP, Peer-to-Peer and Torrents (and similar but not limited to) will receive less priority. Clients deemed to be continuously uploading/downloading or using the service for unattended automated processes will be managed by the Axxess Protocol Manager. The Axxess Protocol Manager may be used to manage clients by rate limiting (slowing down speed) and limiting or preventing service using specific protocols or ports. We reserve the right to use the Axxess Protocol Manager to manage the integrity of our network should network capacity not be available at any time, we assure our clients that we will do this in a responsible manner should the need arise.

Any user that is found attempting to bypass or circumvent the Axxess Protocol Manager will be suspended and could have their service cancelled. "

We do not have any specific amount of data that a user can use before they will become managed, the severity of the management on your account will depend on the load on the network at that specific point in time.

I wish you luck, but you're going to get a lot of packet loss. For now at least. So I'll try in a year to check and see if they improve.

Played about 3 hours CSGO last night, not a single packet lost...

Depending on how long the activation take, you might be online from 2 days to 2 weeks. You will be billed pro-rata, yes.

Ended being online the same day I applied, thanks for the feedback:)

@Access Lady: your copy-pasta make no sense, same text I read on every ISP site. "We try", "we offer", "best", "most" and other commercial BS. What is REAL state of matter is we pay FULL money, but get NOT GUARANTEED speed. It's not fair - you have no reason to buy enough capacity even if we need it. That's why I ask about SOME GUARANTEE (in numbers I CAN control) that I won't be shaped just because I downloaded 500GB.
Another issue is even if I downloaded huge gigabytes, it's my business - your business is to support proper speed for everybody. "Proper speed" means NOT suppressing people, but buying proper capacity! (we PAID for it, remember?) And even if you have high load, I see nothing fair in suppressing one in favor of another user - all users should be suppressed proportionally, especially when high load continues not a whole day! Low speed is a problem of ALL USERS because of your low capacity, so all of us should put same efforts (mean shaping) to resolve our current problem. Have you such policy? If not, why?

I think by the way things are going, I'll have to use cybersmart. Even if they follow up with the email, I'm not certain anything will change. So it's on cancellation as we speak. Just waiting for the end of the month.

I'll have to use cybersmart.

I tried 3 ISP and all had shaping on unlim account - not sure Cybersmart is exception. My last hope is FTTH :)
Currently I have capped Axxess and happy with it, but the only reason I get capped is impudent policy of ISP on uncapped accounts. I also wanna download DVDs not counting every byte!

Have you considered a business unshaped account?

@throwaway420 : same trap. That moment I was with Afrihost on "home uncapped" (which was shaped enormously). I complained that paid for 384Kbit, but didn't get even half that speed! Standard answer: "move to business uncap". WTF? Then why you sell "home uncap" not providing proper speed? (I download not much, even less 20GB/m) OK, paid additionally R100 I got... same cr@p - hardly reaching 30KB/s even on my ridiculous 384Kbit!! Monkey business, I say!

REMEMBER, naive user: if ISP has "home" and "business" uncap, IT IS CHEATER. You won't get proper speed, despite your package. ISP who has enough bandwidth simply won't differ "home/business" packages. And who differs, that already has problem with low capacity.

ISP in SA is like dog on grass: she doesn't eat grass and doesn't allow others(cows) to eat! WTF to have all those sea cables if they underused on 80%?? Moronic service...

Lmao you know very little. Try Web Africa Business Uncapped Pro, not Home Uncapped with a Business label on it.

@throwaway420 : and you guarantee my speed will be exactly what I paid for? I guess two answers: 1) you don't guarantee and there is no reason to follow your advise 2) it costs enormous money.
And BTW WA is not a company I can trust - heard same complains like with other ISPs.

Kk enjoy hopping ISPs. You get what you pay for at the end of the day.

So he shouldn't hop ISP's, that's good for competition.

As someone who has been with the same ISP for 2 years now, and hasn't been in his server room since June since everything just bloody works (mfw) I can say ISP hopping is something for people who pay for x but expect x^2 and complain that they receive √x

So yes, if your provider is bad, it was most likely a bad decision on your part and you're free to change/cancel/migrate whatever to any other provided you feel is better but as soon as you move from ISP to ISP in a roundabout fashion you need to realise that you're the common denominator here and moaning about it on a forum won't change that.

Rather actually use a good service (ei not the absolute cheapest option) at a decent (since not every red apple is the same shade of red) ISP.

So I am considering moving my ISP from Telkom due to the fact that they are daft and cant follow simple instructions to upgrade my service. I asked them to upgrade my line from a 4mb to 10mb and also do the same with my uncapped data from 4mb to 10mb. What do they do.....they add it as a new installation, they are also R150 to R200 more expensive compared to Axxess & Afrihost for having your DLS data & line rental with them.
Currently Axxess charges R799 p/m for DSL & line 10mb & Afrihost is R879 p/m
I was with Axxess a few years back and service was great, by choice who would you rather be with Afrihost or Axxess.
Just curious as I am about to give Telkom the boot

Can someone at axxess please take a look at my account.. I can't keep a skype call open without it dropping every 2-3 minutes. Playing games online, local or international, gives bad pings, and players can't connect to me.

Everything was 100% over the weekend. It's not my exchange / router / PC.

I dont care for downloads. Just normal internet.

Please yelp :(

It's Axxess andit's affecting a large part of their network, they can't just fix it for one person, I can only advise changing to Afrihost. The owner of Axxess, or another company like mweb or cybersmart. You see I don't mind limiting my cap, as long as it has a stable connection such as (PACKET LOSS) and I'm seeing comments like this very recently popping up about axxess. On the internet. But I do know Afrihost is not having this issue. So I wish you the best. And I am a little bit certain that if your axxess internet starts working properly. Then mine will too, because the frequency of current feedback to axxess, on forums and on the news comments are showing a lot users aren't satisfied. Packet loss, is not a petty complaint. Nothing can be done on the internet besides facebook with packet loss.

Just some feedback, been with Axxess for about a week now, I know its not long, but I've been extremely happy... Put about 20 hours into online gaming the past week, not a single lag spike or lost packet...(This is a breath of fresh air since I'm coming from a WISP) Torrent downloading is pretty much a no go during the day (thats understandable though) but I did leave the downloads running through the night twice and managed 50gbs worth of torrents on my 10mb/s.

Streamed showmax every night as well, also not a single issue, runs flawlessly... The only site I've had an issue with has been Twitch, trying to stream anything higher than medium results in a lot of buffering, but I'm starting to think the issue might be on their site, as I had the exact same issue while trying to stream twitch with Bitco.

Anyway keep up the good work Axxess:)

I moved from Afrihost, excepting a difference when using Axxess.

Afrihost was absolutely terrible. I was changing between my business account and Afrigreen almost every day...
