It matters not whether someone works for Telkom or not.

What matters is what people write :

The technical arguments concerning network architecture, DSLAMS and the like
are not really relevant and a flawed response to ICASA's findings on LINE RENTAL.

What is relevant is that ICASA found Telkom's price structuring to be unique in the world :

Telkom are taking THREE shots at the consumer :

1. Line Rental - R90.00
2. Line Rental - ADSL (R477.00)
3. ISP charges - R whatever.

In the world of fairness (other countries) - the consumer is hit with ONE shot.
This ONE shot includes ALL three of Telkom's shots.

Telkom are suggesting that ICASA wants to take away ALL their income.
This is a lie and misleading - Nobody wants broadband for nothing and it
has never been mooted by ICASA.

Telkom further confuse the issue (Mr. Steve White) by referring only to the
lowest LINE RENTAL R270.00 almost suggesting that this is the only income
Telkom derives from ADSL - This is a lie.

ICASA have correctly identified the complaints from ALL myadsl submissions
and have found that in the rest of the world, consumers pay ONE single amount
to an ISP (very important).

Now if Telkom's arguments are to receive any attention, they must show that their
infrastructure and network is different from those used in the FAIR world, then their
arguments must be considered.

Of course if Telkom's ADSL is different from the rest of the world and therefore
so expensive to maintain, we can always help them to get it right - as it is done
in the rest of the world.

We have already encouraged Telkom to participate in the forum. I think that would be great. But I'm totally apposed to them "planting" someone here with the express purpose of manipulating MyADSL for their own personal gain in the press. I find this totally infuriating.

Thats what this is all about. Nobody is saying you can't have a differing opinion. But Ayanda's style has raised a lot of people's suspicions that he / she is just planted here to offer support to Telkom, allowing articles like the one quoted above to claim Myadsl users are supporting Telkom and agree that the Icasa report is flawed.

I think its great that Telkom would have a voice on this forum. This is what a 'discussion' forum os all about.

I actually go out an look for the threads where Ayanda has posted - not because of the comments made by this person, but because of the discussion that takes place on those threads.

It would be a pretty boring forum if everyone just said the same thing over and over again.

I hear those that are concerned about a 'Telkom Spy' or concerns about Telkom using this as a PR forum - but at the end of the day that does not matter. What matters is the facts. If the facts which are presented by forum members are true, they will hold up in an argument, if not; everyone will know.

I welcome all Telkom employees. I welcome anybody from the government as well as people from outside the coutry who are not directly involved at all.

I think we should stop giving Ayanda a hard time about who he/she is or for whom she works for and rather hunt for her posts and contradict any false truths (if any) that he/she may be saying.

Wouldn't it be great if Steve W or Vapi was a member of this forum and made posts about their views and allowed us the oppurtunity to refute those views face to face?

Maybe I am too much of a diplomat...

I'm all for privacy on this forum but I object to companies planting their opinions here and then saying: "Look, even myadsl users agree with us!". Thats not on. If Telkom wants to have representation here then they ought to be open and transparent about it.

Thats exactly what was happened. This person posted here a different opinion and all of a sudden explicit these post has been picked because it suits in White's lies. He wrote nothing about our numerous complaints against Telscum.

This is what I call a misuse of our forum in order to undermine our work.

I agree with rpm on the right of free expression in our forum, but especially in this case it has been used of backstabbing us.

It was a trick and we need to defend it. And why is this person not coming back and defend her/him? Because it was just a once off!!!

Yeah it was once off because she knew that an article on ITWEB would be published about the ICASA hearings and everyone, including Telkom, know how hard it is to get "MyADSL's Stamp of Approval" . So if a spy could defend them on the forum then it would be good for PR.

Look it really doesnt matter who Ayanda is people, we as a forum were USED. Telkom have presumably been monitoring us for a while, if they haven't they are more stupid than I thought. ICASA proves it is not as toothless as Telkom think it is. A highly unfavourable report is gazetted, motivated by us. They plant a mole. The mole makes some argument that is shot down in flames, but the argument is made. Telkom use this to try and divide and conquer by publishing this so called dissent in a press article. How pathetically desperate must they be?

I welcome all and any opinion here on the forum but Telkom manipulating this forum is yet another irrefutable indicator of their lack of propriety and sensibility.
The damage is done to Telkom. This ICASA report has just today gone political with the IFP standing up to be counted. We have won people what we set out to do, we have exposed Telkom for what they are. Their juvenile commentary and knee jerk reaction in the press prove they did not for one second take our complaint or ICASA seriously. They will now try and sweet talk ICASA around, I put good money on it. What we have to do as consumers is demand that all dialogue is made public so that its validity and its truth can be called in question, challenged, countered and verified. We have to demand that all dialogue between ICASA and Telkom is open to the public so that they may observe the dialogue.
We as consumers have said enough is enough. The regulator has listened and agrees. Telkom cannot ignore us or them without serious serious repercussions.
Ayanda is really so minor in the scheme of things.

there are two ways of looking at it:

1. this 'ayanda' is/was a genuine civilian, posting what they thought - and Telkom picked up on it, and passed the post to their paid-journalists who'd pretty much print whatever Telkom passed them.

2. this 'ayanda' and the post itself was part of the strategic planning by Telkom, and deliberately placed onforum in advance, in order for the PR squads of Telkom to pass onto their tame-paid journalists - or for Telkom to point the 'journalist' towards.

It would be interesting to see the IP address of this 'ayanda' - and to see where they were posting from, when they signed up.

In addition, I think it might be very very useful for letters and/or phone calls to be made to the Editor of Business Day, pointing out that their 'journalist' in charge of internet technology, suspiciously chose to use the ONLY supportive post in a thread discussing Telkom, to make it appear that there was some general support for Telkom, on this forum, in her article.

I would consider this misleading at best (and if Telkom themselves offered the journalist a printout of this strange anomalous post - and she then simply printed what was given to her without questioning the source) - the Editor of Business Day should at least reprimand the journalist, if not fire her, for questionable and unethical behaviour.

At very least, the Editor should be made aware of this - so that this becomes a suspicious black mark in the journalists employment record.
