Yes, they do have the staggered motorplan, but the point that I was trying to make, was that he was trying to justify better fuel consumption in order to spend an extra 40 k. He's not saving anything - just spending more.
If he wants a new car, by all means buy one, but don't try and justify the purchase thinking that you will save money.
Just aint gonna happen!

How much will i get round about for a 2004 FL C180 Kompressor Elegance A/T, with full service history, + spare key, no physical damage, car in excellent condition?, has 183k km on the clock.
And as Dolby said, the fuel consumption plays a big part, but i do want something with less millage, which is newer, and if its more fuel efficient, well bargain!!. My insurance stays the same unfortunately.
I agree with Fazda. Obviously the more you drive, the more you save, but the difference in this case is not enough for me to say it is worth it, since I dont think the difference is high enough. You get 7-8l per 100km, while people with a B class get just under 7l per 100km. What you really need to save money is buy an older manual Ford Fiesta with a diesel engine. You would probably cut your fuel bills by 40%. But then you dont want such a car, so fuel efficiency is not your primary goal.
Stick with what you have and what you know, unless the car is giving you problems.

Car not giving problems, drives like a dream, just getting old....
But yeah, will probably keep it for another year, maybe 2.

A 10 year old Merc is worth between 60 and 100 k if you are lucky.
To give you an example, we have just traded in an immaculate 2004 E 200K with 83000 on the clock, and I battled to get 80 for it, so don't raise your hopes too high.

I figured i could get 70 if im lucky, maybe 85 if i sell it privately.
But yeah like i said, suppose i should stick with it until it starts giving problems.
Those E classes are nice, i almost went for it but at the end decided on the C, the E is just a tad to big, but drives like a dream.

What will they sell that old Merc for then ?
I've always thought the 10-15% they seem to make on the trade is in quite high :/ It was a huge mission and days and days negotiating to get R125k for my old car - and they sell it a few weeks later at R160,000. As they made a profit on the new car as well - they probably grossed R60,000.00 on the transaction of trade/sale.

You should test drive a B. My mum wanted to trade in her 2004 c180k facelift on a new B. She went for a test drive and didn't like the drive. It's drives like a golf, the suspension isn't as refined as the C, it's more firm and doesn't absorb the undulations in the road aswell. She ended up waiting for the new C because of the suspension.
For interest sake the best trade in price was R55k for the 2004 c180k facelift with 205000km and in flawless condition with full service history.

Yeah, but the car is fully depreciated already so will have to pay tax of 40% on the R90k bringing it back down to +-R55k.

best trade in offer i got on my 2007 c180k w203 avantgarde with 165km was 80k so 55 on yours seems about right
Well that's just plain ridiculous, we have awesome cars, people still complement me on "my beautiful car", it drives like a dream, never breaks, not to mention all the features and luxury..... and they want to offer next to nothing for it, what other car can you buy for 55, even 80 on that note?
Then i'll drive my merc and never sell it.
*Will still like to hear what the 40% tax thing is all about???
Those instalments you would have paid might be better off in a investment account of sorts and then keep on driving the merc.
Nope, but its a Merc, all Mercs drive the same, even the A-class
Do yourself a favour one day, and go through to a Mercedes dealership, and arrange to test drive a vehicle from each segment.
The A-class feels different to a C-class, and nothing beats the S-class.
The B-class is a glorified "moms' taxi" while driving the S-class feels like you are driving a floating cloud.
