B8 A4 1.8T or 2.0T Multitronic.

Lol, I will have to wait for the arthritis to set in before I qualify to drive a Merc :)

In the end, based on everyone's positive feedback, I decided to go for the 2.0T multitronic.

The only thing I don't like about it so far is other slow idiot drivers blocking my every opportunity to trap voet! Can't you see my LED's in your mirror? Mooooove over punk...

I've had mine for about 2 months now. The multitronic gearbox is truly amazing. I can sit back and coast when I want to relax, or I can 'laat loop' and motor when I am in the mood :D

Honestly the best auto box I have ever driven. It just coasts and seriously moves when you put foot!

There is one, only one thing that I wish it had, with my ipod plugged in it doesn't display track names or artists. :p

Haha I know what you mean. :p

Got the day light running on mine as well. love it!

Then use an SD card instead! Can anyone confirm if the later models support 32GB SDHC cards or if it is still restricted to an older 4GB SD only?

Ah yes, and you close the gap between you and the punk down to the "full Audi".
Actually I love your type - its the only time I get to use my harsh rear fog lights ;)

Nah that would make my 160 GB iPod redundant :p

Mine does? Perhaps it only does this cause I have the B&O sound................newer firmware?

Ya but you got the B8 remember, I have the B7, its probably been updated since then :)

Ahhh sorry man! Well that sounds like a good enough reason to trade-in your B7 and get a B8 then! :D

I hate multitronic, cvt gearboxes in general. Why audi still uses it is anyones guess. But still nicer than a manual if you sit in traffic a lot. But I think you better off with a manual if you gonna keep it past its warranty.

That makes me feel much better. Just bought an 05 1.8T A4 manual. I initially wanted the multitronic but was advised against it as well.

Still not quite. If you slot it into manual, like I mentioned earlier, it will give you a bunch of fixed ratios - or gears - which are nothing more than artificially defined steps in an infinitely variable range. In normal driving the car simply matches the engine's revs to the power demand at any given moment. That's why, if you floor it in auto, the revs quickly rise to the engine's torque peak & then just stay there while your speed climbs. Conversely, when you're coasting the revs will drop whilst maintaining your speed.

Have a read on howstuffworks.com - it's a truly brilliant concept, but there are questions regarding long-term reliability.

Hmmm! That makes sense.

I doesn't bother me, because I'm so close to your rear bumper I can't even see your rear fog light hidden beneath my bonnet.

Google brought me here, so I'm going to revive this old thread... almost a year later.

Are you guys still happy with your Multitronic gearboxes, or are there issues to report? I'm looking at an A4 1.8T Multitronic.

I have the B7 multitronic and I am very happy. Haven't had any issues.
