The trend of using the Internet partly for entertainment, is starting to gain popularity in South Africa and it shows in the search terms. Paris Hilton came in at number 5.

I never knew South Africans had such bad taste - also why are people searching "News24/IOL/ABSA" on Google when the website addresses are easy to remember?

I doubt that many people search for ‘wikipedia’ alone, but rather for something like ‘MyADSL wikipedia’ which will give the wikipedia entry for MyADSL. As for Paris Hilton…there is no excuse

But could the wikipedia search not refer to somebody searching for "wikipedia gdp" as I often do (Albeit in the Safari search bar)

Or does it mean that people searched for "wikipedia" and no other search terms?

Read an article that people are increasingly using google search bar to link to websites rather than the address bar.

Seems to be a global trend. For some reason some people find it easier to go through google.

Maybe if someone was uncertain whether the site was a .com or a .co.za?

Then he/she would use google and click the link. But I doubt anyone would use that route the same time every time. At some stage you'd actually remember which one it is.
