Baby maimed during labour
Klerksdorp - The head and arms of a large baby boy were allegedly ripped off by doctors and nursing staff last week at the local hospital, while his mother spent hours in labour.

Baby Lemeel Booysen's head and arms were apparently stitched back onto the body before it was shown to his 29-year-old mother, Faiza. The "joins" are clearly visible on photos taken by her husband, Donovan.

On Tuesday last week, Faiza was in labour for several hours in the Klerksdorp hospital, while doctors and nursing staff "fiddled and pulled and tugged around inside" her.

On the previous day she'd been informed that Lemeel, who weighed 4.7kg at birth, had died in her womb. She, and allegedly some of the nursing staff as well, doubted this, because they could still feel the baby moving.

"In the delivery room they told me I must push because the baby's getting tired. How could he be getting tired if he wasn't alive?" Faiza asked.

At one stage, two doctors and a nursing sister sat on top of her and pressed on her stomach in an attempt to get Lemeel out, said Faiza. And while this was going on, someone was constantly turning and pulling at the baby inside Faiza.

"The room was full. I think the whole ward seven (all the staff on the ward) was there. It looked like a butchery [because of all the blood] when they were finished," said Faiza.

Apparently it was the fourth doctor who was called in to assist who finally said Faiza should be taken to the operating theatre.

Booysen had been given medication to induce labour the previous day, despite the fact that the baby was apparently "dead", and there was a note on her file saying a caesarean section had been scheduled for November 18 due to the baby's size.

According to Booysen, when the decision was made that she should go to theatre, everyone disappeared from the delivery room. She turned her head and saw Lemeel's head lying in a silver bowl on the instrument table. It was half covered by a green sheet.

"I don't know when his arms came off, but that must also have happened in the delivery room," said Faiza.

Doctors later apparently told Lemeel's father that he must understand that "the baby was simply too big" to survive. Faiza, who has three other children, has problems with diabetes during pregnancies.

She has lost two other babies, at six and four months respectively.

Forgive them
Apparently a social worker who paid a visit to Faiza in hospital told her she "should forgive the people" who were involved at the birth, because everyone makes mistakes.

Mr Booysen phoned the police. The next day, he made a statement, after which Lemeel's body was apparently sent to Potchefstroom for a post-mortem.

Kebaakae Metsi, provincial police spokesperson, was not aware of the incident.

Are you kidding me...? They killed the child basically. All of the ones involved should have their licenses revoked and thrown in jail. This seems to be gross medical malpractice.:mad:

I hope they get nailed for this!
 
Really hope the baby didn't suffer. Scary, time to get medical aid. Looks like I shouldn't place my hope on gov hospitals.

Sounds like it was dead. Then they had to induce labour to get it out.

WTF! I did not know they chop it up to get it out :(

Read the article, seems like according to the mother and some of the sisters:

Medical murder through incompetence ?

In a world where thousands of large babies are born normally and without complications by competent midwives around the globe, this incident indicates that something is fatally wrong at this hospital and that the staff are negligent, incompetent and I hope an investigation reveals all the guilty who contributed to the horrifying death of this baby.
 
Still sounds like it was dead. Why else would they chop it up?

They PULLED to baby apart while trying to pull if from the mother... at least thats how I read it...:sick:

Me to but how the fusk do you break a slippery baby up. :sick: Would she not have been torn to pieces too it they were janking the arm until it broke off?

I just thought it was doen like and abortion,:sick:

I'm just asking because that what I have seen read and heard of a delivery makes this a bit strange.. I'm not saying the woman is lying or the hospital was right.. how hard do you have to pull on a baby to rip it's head off:sick::sick: Would the mother not have been torn apart?:(

A normal delivery tears a woman open from her vijayjay to her Anus.

If a baby is stuck to the extend of tearing it apart... the mother would also have been torn to pieces down there?

If that is what you meant then yes, she might of tore down there but that is not completely uncommon. To what extent though is another story.

The comments relating to the child being alive or dead just don't add up. Something is definitely amiss.
 
That is some truly f**ked up malpractice by the staff. Did they buy their qualifications?

This needs an investigation and some arrests need to be made.
 
Jeez all you Quasi doctors need to firstly take a chill pill and then get educated.

Their is no doubt this fetus died intra-uterine, that was why she was then induced.

If you read the article she was diabetic and already had a C-section booked, their is no other reason for inducing labour, except that the fetus had died.

Now think for a moment what would happen to a dead lump of flesh. In medical terminology it becomes macerated. ie soft and decomposed.

Now here is the dilemma, do you put this woman through a C-section, scarring her uterus and therefore affecting her future fertility , or attempt to deliver vaginally with the possibility of this outcome?
