Baby maimed during labour

Jeez all you Quasi doctors need to firstly take a chill pill and then get educated.

Their is no doubt this fetus died intra-uterine, that was why she was then induced.

If you read the article she was diabetic and already had a C-section booked, their is no other reason for inducing labour, except that the fetus had died.

Now think for a moment what would happen to a dead lump of flesh. In medical terminology it becomes macerated. ie soft and decomposed.

Now here is the dilemma, do you put this woman through a C-section, scarring her uterus and therefore affecting her future fertility , or attempt to deliver vaginally with the possibility of this outcome?

Exactly! I'm surprised that everyone believes it's that easy to pull off a limb. The only way it makes sense is if the body was partially decomposed.

Aren't C-sections used almost by default these days?

My one friend was basically forced by her medical aid to have one, by refusing to pay for anything else. Doctors also seems prefer it, as they better manage their tee off times.

Not to posh.... just do not want the vienna in the cave syndrome:erm:
lol - it returns to normal ;)

In fact its often tighter depending on the dr's handiwork.

Absolute rubbish. The woman would not have lived more than a few days if the baby died inside her.

I have never heard of such a shocking story in my life. This sort of thing does not happen in civilized countries. Only in Africa I say. A bloody circus in that hospital, no body knew what they were doing.

Apparently a social worker who paid a visit to Faiza in hospital told her she "should forgive the people" who were involved at the birth, because everyone makes mistakes.
FFS..

How so? I doubt that.

Retained parts (usually from the placenta, but a dead foetus would qualify as such too) following a delivery are massive infection risk, which can lead to septiceamia and death of the mother in short order.
But no, not within the timeframe mentioned here.

In terms of c-section versus NVD, you find it's very common in the private health care system, mostly due to the financial aspects, but the "too posh to push" syndrome is certainly a factor too. With a c-section you're looking at a theater booking, a 2 day hospital stay, the anaethetist, the scrub nurse, the theater sister, the EN assistent, the 2 surgeons doing the op, all the surgical sundries such as gauze, needles, the suction catheter, and all the other little consumables that get used up, and so on and so forth. And that list is by no means exhaustive.

For a normal vaginal delivery you need, A : a midwife (pretty much anyone with a basic life support or greater qualification will do), and B: a delivery pack. If there's tearing (which can be managed and controlled by performing an epesiotomy), you'll need 2-4ml of lignocaine, a needle for the re-usable syringe, a 2.0 silk suture, and maybe a 4.0 chromic suture. And that's pretty much it. In fact, under normal, uncomplicated circumstances, you can very happily and successfully deliver a baby using two pieces of string, a pair of scissors, and some towels if you want to contain the mess.
If the midwife wants the extra hands you might find a staff nurse, or a student nurse doing their obs rotation helping out, but it's not a given thing. The obstetrician won't be anywhere near the delivery unless there's a problem, or a difficult birth is anticipated. And mother and baby go home the same day most of the time.

Notice the difference, particularly in terms of bill-ables? There's why c-sections are pushed on patients, not for any medical reason, not as a general rule. Money and vanity.
And we're talking about major abdominal surgery here, even if it is fairly mundane and day to day procedure, involving anaesthetic and a nice big hole being cut through various muscles and organs, with all the risks that these entail.

The claim that the baby was still alive, and that it was pulled apart during birth, that I find very hard to believe. A normal, healthy baby will not come apart the way this one was described to have done, not due to intra-uterine manipulation during an induced delivery, while a decomposing foetus certainly can.
This poor woman has gone through an awful experience, and has suffered a terrible loss, and I can well imagine she's hurt and angry, and is looking for somebody to blame, but really, as far as I can tell from the news reports I've read, the hospital and the staff involved did not do anything wrong, the explanations offered are entirely reasonable, and they certainly didn't pull a live baby apart.
I mean, get real, did the entire staff of that labour unit suddenly between them decide they were going to tell a woman her baby was dead, and proceed to pull it to pieces to get it out of her, just for fun? And then call in other doctors from outside the unit to get in on the fun? Does this not strike anyone else at all as being completely absurd?
Patients die due to care provider error and malpractice, including babies during deliveries, it's a fact. It's fairly rare, but it does happen.
But you don't find the entire staff of a ward, and extra doctors from outside, collectively deciding to kill a baby like this.

there is just no way i believe that this baby's head or limbs could have just been ripped off like that. not even hanging a person with a noose in the old days rips someone's head off. and the fact that all and sundry were supposed to be jumping on her to push this baby out? i call this codswallop. even if we live in a third world country we not that damn stupid. we've progressed beyond this.
i think someone's trying to get attention here.
either they show pics to prove the horror that was supposed to have taken place or it didn't happen at all.
