Don't think it ever really was. Certainly you could claim it through savings but you would still be paying or do you mean as part of the normal medical aid?

some government clinics do it for free, other places you need to pay. recently had some workers come to my son's school and give him a polio drop for free

My 2 brothers both have kids under a year and they went to our local clinic and got it done for free.... Quick and easy.

They should cover government vaccinations up to 18 months, well that was the case with my son last year, all of his vaccinations were done and paid for by the medical aid.

Phone Discovery callcenter - what I read on these forums compared to what a friend who works in their call center tells me are two different things.

Yeah local clinics are a good idea.... some of those vacs are massively expensive...

We used a local clinic, slight wait of 20 mins but not bad at all.

Had to pay cash at the private Baby Clinic this side. Hellishly expensive (R1200+ in some cases) but it beats having to sit in a queue at the local Clinic.

I have since found out that one can get vaccinated at a private clinic, but using government stock vaccine.
It works out much cheaper than private vaccine as you only pay for the consultation (R450 for the vaccinations versus R1700).
I'll likely be taking this route... hygiene and shorter waiting times of private, but at a hugely reduced price.
In case anyone else wants to do this, I'm likely going to use the Bedfordview Mother and baby Centre

Most pharmacies + Dischem and Clicks do this as well you just need to pay a levy / dispensing fee. when i was on Liberty Medical aid (hospital plan) used to pay most of my youngest daughters vaccines the pharmacy only used to charge about 50 bucks levy- changed medical aid now so need to check if they cover as well.
