So i was just wonder if any one could enlighten me.

What is the difference in windows server backup and some of these third party apps?

What are the advantages and what backup solution do you use?

windows server backup = works but is basic. Notifications are a mission to setup with task manager and they don't always work. Individual backups for each server setup on each of said servers

Paid Solutions = centralized setup, client gets installed on servers and managed from one place. Notifications are a breeze and restores are easily done from management server.

At the moment Windows server backups are used, it does "work" but is a hassle to maintain and make sure that it stays running...

Depending on whether you are referring to business or consumer solutions.

For personal use I just use TimeMachine on the mac, it's super easy.

For the office I use Proxmox live backups then backup to these and the file server to tape using Bacula.

has anyone used Acronis ? i plan on installing it on a work server.

Depends on the size of the site.
Netbackup is very good in the enterprise
