Back in time - Server Problems?

Was there a server error along the way? A number of posts, including PMs, seem to be missing and my last visited is about 8 hours off what it should be.

Please forgive - and relocate - this post if its in the wrong area.

And kudos if the stats are correct - "Most users ever online was 544, 05-05-2005 at 11:23 AM."

Hi folks

I have not had feedback from Afrihost yet, but it seems that they have moved us back to the original server using the initial backups before the move. That means that many posts and PM’s will be missing. My apologies for this problem…I will publish more details when I get clarity on this issue.

ah dammit. all my posts from last night are gone. just when i finally decide to post instructions for netmon, voila, they dissapear! Rpm - cant they recover last nights posts?

Ah bloody hell, all my dumb drunken ramblings from yesterday lost !
I'll have to make up for it today - what a mission ! :D
 
Ditto. All the corporate sponsorship in the world does not make up for ineptitude, particularly when well-known examples in the form of Telkrap, M$, etc. are commonplace. At the very least, Afrihost should come clean about what they did and where they went wrong. Such transparency would go a long way towards being forgiven by forumites, and potentially even instigate a willingness to provide free assistance when they need it - after all, not everything revolves around black ink and the bottom line, as they well know!
 
I dont understand. SURELY Afrihost are backing up the transaction logs??? Who in their right mind runs a production DB system without writing the logs away at regular intervals. Damn, in the industry I work in, we would be shot if we lost more than 1 minutes worth of data, let alone over a day! And to do changes during business hours without notifying anyone. Eish. Have they never heard of continuous access strategies????
But then again, it is free... So no more complaints from my side. I am sure RPM has had enough of all this already and just want to enjoy his weekend :D
 
hey lets not all diss afrihost... **** happens and it happended on a good day (friday 13). fact is afrihost are doing us, rpm and myadsl a HUGE favour for sponsoring this site... more then most people are... and face it mistakes happen... fact is myadsl experiences very little down time... and i think it's amazing a south african company is actually sponsoring myadsl...
 
I really should not move an inch on Friday the 13th...My electric bed broke down and my special matress (decubitus) started leaking. And my daughter spilled sugar over me, when she brought me a coffee. I hate it...*ggg* And now the forum as well....*grrrrrrrr*
 
Bwahaha.... er sorry but yeah sugar isn't fun when it gets into your bed, makes it a little uncomfortable... and don't ask me how sugar got into my bed ;)
 
It's like biscuit crumbs - they are pretty damn terrible.

When I was in a youth hostel in tel aviv for some months, I got settled into a nice cushdie room of "regulars" or "hard core travelers" and our trick when one of the "regulars" left, leaving a bed empty, was to initiate any new person to the room with a combination of sand, lemon and salt rubbed into the bed sheets.

If they were still there the next day and could laugh it off, they were part of the "cushdie room", otherwise they would ask to be moved :D

Worked like a dream - there was only ever good fun people in that room ! - stayed in the room for 3 months solid - six people. The smell of socks still haunts me to this day ... :D

Well when you consider the title of this thread, and that Celemasiko's daughter was serving him coffee & sugar...server problems...not really off topic...:D

No offence there - I'm just in a jovial mood tonight ;).
