Hi

I have had a similar problem using the "BackUp" VAS Service of Vodacom in the past. Leaving the politics a side Vodacom admitted that the service is type handset dependent apologizing for the ambigious manner their website advert displays,not reflecting this important point. The "Sub Contracting" company providing this service does not even answer even reply to any emails.
At the time Vodacom promised that they would clearup the ambigious advertising on their website, not sure if it was done. Suggest you contact Vodacom Accounts dept to cancel this service and credit you the R10 fee.

using a SYNCML incompatible handset

Hi VD
This is where the problem starts. The Vodacom staff cannot advise which handsets are SYNCML compatible nor is it unambigiously stated on the website. It is a fact that Windows Phones OS are not compatible and posibily Andriod OS as well. I know that certain Symbian Nokia phone will work. I recall that my discussions with a senior person in die "Back Up" service only reflected bad customer service accompaned by lost records or contacts,resulting in cancelled Vas and credit returns.

Infact the Sync Services offered by Ms Windows Live and Google work on Symbian,Andriod and Windows phones giving the ability to Sync all Contacts,Calender and Tasks without problems like SYNCML with the added benefit of not paying R10 Vas only using data.
