Backlit Gaming Keyboard

Less finger stress, faster typing, better feeling, better gaming, different switch types to suit different preferences, longer lasting, easier cleaning...

Lots for just a keyboard.
sucker, can you motivate any of those ?

Better gaming ? No matter how good the keyboard is, it is not gonna make my gaming better. How did you fall for that one ? Do mechanical switches increase my presence of mind to enable quicker reaction time ? If you are immersed in a game you aren't even aware of your keyboard. :D

I have a plain old Dell keyboard : Zero stress on my fingers. If I am not making any typos I am already typing more than fast enough.

The only advantage a better keyboard offers for me is backlighting and USB ports.

Odd, 99% of pro gamers have mech keyboards and they aren't using the USB ports or necessarily the backlighting.

I guess there is no benefit then to mechanical switches for gaming. Must be marketing from Razer.

I can motivate every point I made. Have you even tried mechanical, or is ignorance bliss?

Interesting stats you have there.

Absolutely. If you believe otherwise you're doing it wrong.

Is the Gigabyte Osmium any good? Been wanting to switch to mechanical keyboards for a while, but it's a big investment.

Taking the plunge & getting the Osmium today. Liked the softer keys way back when ALL keyboards were mechanical. lol
If the OP was in CT, I would have offered to sell my K8100 to him. :)

Don't even bother. There is no benefit to mechanical keyboards. It's just marketing from keyboard manufacturers to extort money from ignorant consumers who do it wrong and don't know what's good for them.

Have to agree, after taking postman's advice i got the trigger with the blue switches and i absolutely love it! my gf swears at me often but with decent headphones you can't hear it :P i can't imagine not using a mechanical keyboard any more.

Lies, your keyboard experience cannot possibly be any better. You must imagine using a rubber dome keyboard again as they are the same. The world only needs rubber dome with USB and backlighting.

Aren't blues the loudest ones? Stay away from me!! :D

I know I can hear Phreeme's keyboard over TS, I wonder what switches he has...

Lol, I try push my TS button quietly, then forget that I'm mashing my skill buttons while talking :D
Black switches for me.

IDK son.

I often hear about kids overstraining their fingers on their ****ty cheap keyboards. Also these guys cannot even compete with all the deadly precise mechanical keyboards. And how annoying is it when you are trying to give that pro-gamer, with his kiff mech keyboard, a piece of your mind in all-chat, and he keeps getting his messages in there half an hour before you can ?

Rule of thumb is, the marketing departments and winners on internet forums will never exaggerate to sell something. Doesn't happen.

Buy the most expensive equipment you can find, it will make your gaming that much better. All those those guys with the mad KPD ratios ? How much unnecessary cash do you think they pissed away on their peripherals ? Leetness isn't free people.

Razer, Logitech, Steelseries etc. all have gaming rubber dome keyboards. Odd that the pros choose mechanical, since according to you it's worthless. And with all that noise!

Answer my previous question. Have you used one, or like your finger straining kids example, is ignorance bliss?

Mech kb's need no exaggeration. Only to tinted spectacle wearers like yourself who deny the majority consensus and obfuscate by asking for further proof.

Correction, they obviously became pros because of the keyboards. (Also none of them have stuff sponsored, nope never heard of)

Of course I have ! I just found it so bizarre that I was still getting owned like I always do ! What did I do wrong ? Or was it a dud ? what gives !

Sponsored and they also have a choice of peripherals.

Some rubber domes are also more expensive than mechanical.

I understand you're a noob, but I don't believe you've properly tried one. Perhaps the arrow keys cutout on the Razer BW.

I think this is going off topic now.

Who cares if mechanical is better to some players than rubber domes are to other players. I think the OP was looking for advice on a cheap keyboard and NO mechanical keyboard is cheap that has backlighting aswell.

OP:

The suggestions for the keyboards have been put out there for all in your budget range. I can't think of any others available under R600.

Personally i'm inclined to say rather dont spend money on a keyboard if you only have R600 (even though its not in your budget, i just feel its a better option all round). rather save another R400-R600 and get a decent quality keyboard that is going to last you the next 5 years if you take good care of it.

So how do I "properly try" a keyboard ?

Maybe some activity that I never normally do on my PC ?

Boet, you are after bling, not gaming. Pimp my rig yo.

My previous keyboard (scissor switch, thank goodness not rubber dome) cost almost double my current mechanical keyboard. My mech doesn't have a backlight, palm rest, USB. So it's bling just because it's mech? Got'cha.

I dont think many ppl come from the days of the 90's when all you could get with pc's were mechanical keyboards ;)

I will plus 1 on the mechanical KB's, however I can't really say if it does anything more than a normal rubber dome KB could do. I personally just like the click of the keys and the sound.

The word you're looking for is "tactile" :)
