BackTrack 5

i have been using kali linux for a while now and it is the best security distro out there.

In fact I also have a small 8GB Sandisk Cruzer Fit that could also do the job perfectly.

It won't fit on a 8GB flash stick, installed it uses about 18GB of space. 8GB will be fine as a Live system though.

18GB! Damn, so much for Linux being light. :P

Since it will just be a side distraction for me I doubt I will need anything more than a live system.

This could help...
Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Training (312-50)

http://www.jumpingbean.co.za/Certified-Ethical-Hacker-Training

There are many sections to eerr....uuhhhmm "threat management and data security" :P . Such as mitigating DDOS attacks, password attack attempts, site defacing, SQL injections, etc, etc.

Take one area that ive mentioned and focus just on that to learn about it. Youtube is a good teacher but still some of the posters are idiots so be careful (blind leading the blind).

I would however advise you purchase a book called "Hacking Exposed" I think its at 7 or 8th edition now. I say purchase because its worth its money.

Using Kali Linux everyday now for security related things. Did the OSCP course loved every minute of it.

I had forgotten about this Distro... now whether run it as a live distro or to dual boot it along side Win 8 Pro.

Depends what you are going to use it for. If you are going to get up to mischief, then a livecd, if you are going to use it for safe testing then you can install it on something more permanent.

I hope one of you can help me. I am trying to install kali linux on virtualbox but i keep getting boot error when i want to do an install. I used the 32bit version and tried the 64 bit version. But it does not work. Can someone maybe help with this?

You are not very descriptive wrt the problem. It's a straight forward install though, no different to any other linux distro.

Are you creating the swap and grub partitions?

@ponder i did follow his guide. But when i select the 64bit iso, and when i select graphic install it says something about the cpu. And the 32bit iso give me a boot error.

What swap and grub partitions?

When it asks you to partition the drive rather than selecting the guided one where it uses the entire disk choose the manual 1 and create 3 partitions
1 - /boot - 1.5GB
2 - / - 18GB
3 - swap - 2GB

I created a 21.5 gig virtual drive and then formatted the drive as mentioned. That worked for me after the install kept failing.

What does it say about the CPU? What is your host OS, Windows? 32 or 64 bit? You cannot install a 64-bit guest OS on a 32-bit host OS.

Did you verify the MD5 or SHA256 hashes for the ISO image?

To become a Certified Ethical Hacker, what is required?

I see ittc.co.za offers the CEH course, but will this alone be enough for a career as a penetration tester?

To the guys who already does this, what is the job market like and what is the salary range for a CEH?

So in all can you guys tell me if only the CEH is enough or should I do MSCA, MCSE, CompTIA or CPTE course as well?

Thanks
