Any good deals on new dashcams here in ZA?
I've been thinking about getting older gen Android from the classifieds and making my own from it.

For eg I always see loads of prev previous gen Samsung Galaxies for cheap like a S6 with cracked glass and in need of a new battery for 1.5k. That'll do 2K 30fps or 1080 60fps with proper quality, which is much more than you'll get from a equivalent price dash cam so far as I can see.

The problem lies within the field of view. An old Android phone's FOV is extremely limited, so unless you expect the action to happen right in the middle of your screen, a wider angled dashcam is always better.

There is that as well yes, it's something to pay attention to when sourcing. I think for the way I want to use it a S6 or so should be fine, I would mount it on the roof slightly behind me so that you can see forward but with at least head and shoulders in frame.

I've seen people do it that way as it gives a much more accurate perspective of what you would be seeing whils also capturing you which would be very helpful in court. Just need to find out how they are mounting them in the roof liner.

Mines is done with a phone (S6 edge using autoboy dash cam app), I'll be honest it works (can see the decent quality of the videos) got the battery usage/ charge just right , and as soon as im home in wifi range backs up photos to google photos (that kills battery though), but you lose the wide angle of a dedicated dashcam so FOV is limited, and you need to make sure to take it out every single time you park, no matter how old it is a phone is its not worth them breaking into your car for.

Off the top of my head, possibly a number of Mercedes-Benz & BMW models (and various other luxury makes) sold during the 1970's to late 1980's / early 1990's, that had a basic cruise control feature (on/off/faster/slower) fitted to their top-spec models, but before the fitment of ABS / EBD / ESC became a mandatory safety requirement?

Example - BMW E30 Cruise control stalk

Example - Mercedes-Benz W123 / W124 'Tempomat' Cruise control stalk

You could get MkII Golf's in the late 80's with cruise control but no ABS if I remember correctly.

Oops, I didn't think it will be an issue.
Hope this answers why the Golf driver was upset.

Ahh ok the truck didn't ( or couldn't) check that the Golf already moved right to over take. Golf was already in a bad mood from you and probably a few others before (educated guess on the way he is driving)
