Can't be Coronavirus...

Yesterday morning the traffic was still sucky, but yesterday afternoon it was great. So something must have changed then, or even earlier still.

Wasn't there a bridge on the M1 (or somewhere) that was out?

Would that cause people to drive better on our roads by killing them so they can't drive at all?

Nope, it is not electricity-related.

Hmmmmmm

You may have a point.... will have to monitor and see if it happens when loadshedding is implemented again.
everybody was leaving earlier, so the traffic also started earlier, and roads are not long enough to store all the parked cars hence gridlock.

OI hope your luck held. The traffic lights on Solomon Mhlangu at the R21 on- and offramps were out yesterday afternoon. Lucky I went past there early, but would hate to see it during peak time.

hehehe, I did not use the highway yesterday afternoon.

The offramp at the R55 is an absolute nightmare, traffic lights are still out, and you get speshul snowflakes pushing in at the front.

Plus I want to generate as little as possible revenue for etollie. Only using the highway when it is an absolute must. And they (etollie) can get stuffed.

Not paying attention or simply not caring about traffic rules...

I hate lane hogs, especially when I flash to indicate I would like to pass and they sit there...

This is why the human species is doomed, we are parasites on this earth...

Taxi drivers trying to force their way through intersections while the traffic light is red for them...

Just pass on the left? I don't even bother flashing, element of surprise, cause else the moron might even try to block by going left when you do.

By god, if you say something stupid and untrue like "it's illegal" I'm going to PK you.

I eventually do pass left at the end of the video but I do like to give other drivers an opportunity to move over.

Today I got someone's blood properly boiling.

I was heading down a side street that ends at a normal road, one lane each way. 60kph speed limit.

I was at the stop street wanting to turn left, and waited for a Corsa bakkie coming from the right to go past. There was no sight of any other car behind him, and about 100m back there is a little hill that just obscures one's vision. As he went past I turned in behind him and before I even had the time to shift to second gear, I glanced in my rear-view mirror to see an E-class Mercedes right up my tailpipe flashing his lights at me like someone demented.

My back-of-the-napkin calculations tell me that he had to have caught up with me in about six seconds if he was travelling at 60kph if he crested the hill just as I turned, so I estimate his speed to be about 120+kph when he approached me. I'm a sedate driver so I probably took 2 or so seconds to get up to speed in first before shifting to second.

This troglodyte of a man weaved from side to side, still riding up my tailpipe, and I could see his lips moving and spit flying out as he was cursing my ancestors for allowing my little Hyundai to break his not-so-legal speeds. This man got really red in the face and got even closer to my car, so close that I could nearly make out the red veins in his bloodshot eyes. I tapped my brakes to illuminate my brake lights but not enough to actually engage the brakes, and then the middle-fingers and arm-out-the-window and other rude gestures started.

I actually got a little worried and thought that this man might follow me and try and assault me or something when I stop, but he pulled off into a shopping complex and parked in a disabled bay outside Buco. I didn't spot any stickers indicating that he had a disability (and also no number plates on his car front or rear), so I took that with a pinch of salt.

Fun times on the roads today. Be safe out there :)

Well done. Prime A-class candidate for Corona-chan or heart disease...

I just travel at legal speeds as I don't have the time, energy or money to waste on speeding tickets. Let those who want to speed overtake and pass and go speeding off somewhere else.

This also get rid of tailgaters as I'm happy to see them getting aroused by somebody else's exhaust fumes, plus it is somebody else's problem of havening a tailgater.

He is probably overdue for a heart attack or a stroke the way he carried on. I dislike conflict overall and his behaviour was really scary. You hear so often of people getting seriously hurt or killed in road rage incidents so I try and stay far away from the telltale signs (German automobile, no numberplates, tinted windows et al.) of someone who most likely drives like a knob.

I do the same, actually. I plan my trips so that I don't have a need to jaag to get to my destination on time, and I really like my car that's paid off so I see no point in taking unnecessary risks just to reach my destination a minute or two earlier.
