Bad Driving thread

Stop = yield, yield = ignore and nothing = speeding. That's how it works in SA, just FYI. I have a yield sign near my house, in a very quiet area. People are literally ignoring it flat-out. I have to slow down and double-check both directions when I want to cross that street because I get someone skipping it completely at least 2~3 times a month.

They should just make most stop signs yield signs instead... no need to come to a dead stop most of the time.
Though then people would probably just drive straight through without even slowing down.

This, unless it makes sense, stops are needed for various reasons.

It's a daily occurrence in our area, mini circles and stop signs are simply ignored, I take extra precaution.

Sure, I am guilty of that at times, I'll accept that.
At times ? you didn't even know you did it when i called you out in your posted video.

So you must be doing it every single time.

If YOU cannot obey the rules of the road, you still want to post videos of others not obeying the rules ?

Get real man !

Aah, so that is what I did wrong that you failed to highlight, even when I asked twice if I recall correctly. I'll go watch the video in question again now that you have bothered to respond but yes, I admit I have a habit of not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. I will continue posting video's of others I feel are not obeying the rules and acknowledge that I am not perfect in my use of the road although I do try and be as safe as possible. I am not sure why you feel the need to tell me to get real though? What is upsetting you so much?

Why do people hog the right-hand lane, drive slow and then get upset when overtaken from the left? A guy chased me with bright lights on for doing this. First moment he was ahead of me, a slipway emerged on the left to join another road and I got into the slipway immediately, he stayed on our original lane and joined the slipway late as I was about to cover the space in front of me. I had to slow down to allow him. As we join the new road again I gun for the fast lane, he slowly drifts into that stopping my progress while driving slow. I then decide to pass him on his left and go back into the fast lane. He got enraged, put on his brights and chased me to the next robot. The robot was opening and I accelerated and got away from him but I could see on my rear view he was still in pursuit as we got onto the highway.

If you ever get the answer please let us know.

In my experience its funny how the person hogging the 3rd overtaking lane doing his 100 KM/h even if you flash your lights just keeps sitting in that lane. Then you overtake them on the left side and do a small brake check.
Jirre, you should see them doing 140-160 in an instant on your arse

Hahahaha they suddenly find the accelerator, and I don't break check no one. Most of the time I hover behind you to give you enough chance to notice me and move to the left but that still doesn't work, flashing lights is something I rarely do, it's a last resort, you should be aware of faster traffic behind you. I overtake on the left and a lot of times the snail will remain on the fast lane, often causing a huge traffic backlog behind them and in front of them there could be no traffic for an entire kilometer! Most of the time this is in busy morning traffic on our highways.

So I was behind a new Audi with a temporary plate in the fast lane yesterday at 100km/h in a 120km/h zone. I flash as usual to let him know he should either speed up, or go into the middle or left lane.

The idiot did a bloody brake check, I went into the middle lane quickly as I could since it was cler .....and heard a loud bang and some screeching and crashing noises 2 seconds later... the car behind me had crept up to him and he brake checked that dude as well and got hit from behind on his left side, throwing him into the air and flipping his brand new paperweight.

I switch hazards on, stop in the shoulder and call Metro and the ambulance. His door was stuck and couldn't open, neither was the window winding down when I asked him to lower the glass. Oil around the car, blood in his seat, a screaming child in the back on a child-seat holding her bloody face.

Lesson learnt for him I guess. As soon as the Metro came over, I told them what happened and they took down details from me and looked at my dashcam footage then I left.

Why are you doing a brake check?

I'm breaking for the same imaginary thing that is slowing down the previous car, only to confirm that nothing is there so I can speed up again.

Yes yes, I know, talking to Johnathan56 here, you dont have to link multiple artcles here about "break checking" or leaving the country because the way I drive

Seems like a dumb thing to do since if you "succeed" you'll probably get injured, especially going at those speeds, and you'll at least have a nice dent that you'll have to fix.

I know brake checking is dangerous. I don't know about break checking.

To be fair nobody ever learn from their mistakes. Give it 6 months and they will be up to their old tricks.

With kids in the car, I'd rather stay in the 2nd or 3rd lane.

If not on the highway I will wait somewhat patiently behind a right lane hogger and then simply use the left lane to overtake and be on my way, sometimes they are wanting to turn and fail to indicate so I give them some time. On the highway I will flash at the fast lane hogger, give them time to move over and if not, then I will use the middle or left lane to overtake them and be on my way. In both cases, I try my best to see if they are being blocked or can't move over for some reason but it isn't always possible, so I try and be as patient as possible. It has been a while since I threw a bitch fit about it, it is simply not worth it anymore.

Jip, not worth it.

I just have to be a teef on something you said.

Technically there is no fast lane. The rule has always been "keep left, pass right".

The road I travel everyday has 4 lanes. Thus the lane where everyone should drive and 3 overtaking lanes. So if the car in lane 2 is not overtaking the car in lane 1,why is that car in lane 2. Same with the rest.

Example above. Nobody in lane 1. And I bet you the car in lane 3....stayed in lane 3.
