Bad Driving thread

Tonight, during the full lunar eclipse time period, when there was NO ambient illumination from the Moon, I saw two vehicles, coincidentally both by Hyundai - a Tucson & an i20, driving with just their park-lights (a cornea-searing 5W each) & their fog lights on (which only shine about 5-10 m in front of them, lighting up the potholes), blissfully unaware that their headlights (usually 55W each) were OFF!

To paraphrase Dr Frank N Furter:

"It's just a click from the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your switch
You bring your fingers in tight
But it's the wrist turn that really drives you insane,
Let's put the HEAD LIGHTS on again!"

They know! They know their lights are f$%#3d but they don't see the need to spend 300 bucks for some good bulbs. A lot of people with such headlights around.
What pisses me off are the one's where the one light is so bright and the other is dim.
Like can't you see that your lights are lights are not functioning properly??

Then we have those that drive around with high beams because their dipped lights don't work

Arrrgghh

Squint eye jack cars. Normally have brights on cos 1 driving light is bust. My car has really excellent brights. As long as there are not other drivers right next to/behind them I turn on my brights until I'm passed them. Some turn off their brights and then drive like a one eyed jack, then I turn off mine, others try flashing their lights at me, them I ignore until I've passed them.

I seem to think its law to have all lights working correctly when driving at night yet there are many scoro-scoros, inbetween and even high-end vehicles suffering the same inflictions on our roads at night.

I’m actually searching for really bright high beams for my vehicle, just to play with these squint headlight jackasses

Mine's standard, as came with my vehicle. Bought the best quality globes as manufacturer recommends.

It does work well. ;)

For cars fitted with normal halogen headlight bulbs - usually either H4 or H7 - the best ones I have found are either from the Osram Nightbreaker range - or the Philips XtremeVision ones.

I have used both on my last two cars - for the headlights & fog-lights - and currently have the Philips ones fitted.

From the M3 going north, there is a feeder to the N1 at Mowbray. With a friend who was driving at about 80km/hr. A large bakkie with a row of 6 spotlights on top comes right up against the car. The glare from these lights was so bright it illuminated the interior of the car so much that we could not see out the windscreen.

So we slowed down to avoid hitting the wall or barrier. There was a bump as this large bakkie hit the back of the car. As we slowed down to stop, this bakkie swung round and roared off, with his hooter sounding. As we rounded the corner, there was this bakkie again, right up against the car now in front, hooter going

The number plate is CFR18445 and it is a GMC, painted dark blue

Friends (Honda Accord) back bumper is split in the centre

I am sure you have used your MG TF's fog lights before as well - when the prevalent weather conditions call for them to be used appropriately.

I think I've only switched them on to see if they work.

I did replace the main headlights with Osram Laser Night Breakers though. Still need to do the brights and the fogs, but will only do the fogs for overall lighting consistency... if I ever use them. :p

Quite pricey for a set though at R499.

How good are the Lasers? I had some Night breakers a few months back, hated them and they gave up a few months later.

Did you go to a police station and file charges of a hit and run?

Yes, friend and I went to Diep River, where we live. They sent me to Mowbray. There was a queue out the door at 9.30 this morning, so maybe next week

No idea. Its not my car and I expect the ins co will pay. He works for Old Mutual and there is no excess
