Bad Driving thread

Arg  On my way home from Woodmead yesterday, I get off at the Glenhove Rd off ramp off the M1S, stopping at the traffic light in the right hand lane as I am heading up towards Rosebank. As I am making the turn right to cross back over the highway I slowly move over in to the left hand lane as I always do because the lanes merge further ahead. As is often the case, someone who can't be bothered to wait in the correct lane getting off the M1S has turned right from a straight only lane and has to slow down to avoid hitting me before hitting his hooter and flashing his lights at me. I indicated for him to go forth and fornicate with himself which caused him to glare at me in my rear view mirror while mumbling something or other.

If you are going to ignore the rules of the road and potentially put others safety at risk, at least acknowledge that you are in the wrong instead of going off like a two year old whose mother took away their ice cream in the middle of a shopping centre.

It used to be a 1 right turning lane; but isn't it 2 now? I'm sure the yellow right turn arrow is now painted on the ground (I used to get pissed off too at that intersection)...

But this is not possible. We are South Africans - we are in fact required to blame the person we have wronged. Don't you know how driving here works?

Well, Neuk_ may be in the wrong here...

Yesterday morning @ 06:40 I got knocked of my motorcycle going around a circle near Cape Gate. I'm the blue line and the car hit me on the side, I fell off the bike and the bike continued on its own until it hit the sidewalk (blue star).

Not sure how he could not see I were already in the circle.
Eish

Had somebody hoot at me just because I did not stop for them whilst circumnavigating a traffic circle  Ignored the person, but said person honked at me again at a traffic light, kept on ignoring.

Not that I recall but I will check again when I go that way again, most likely tomorrow as I will be at one of divisions offices. If it has changed then I will gracefully apologise to the gentlemen whom I unknowingly cut off if I come across him again.

I hope you aren't injured? What did the other driver say?

Nah not injured, only my back side were a little bruised. He said he didn't see me in the circle.

When I went to report the accident they informed me that it were already reported. I asked to see his statement and in his statement he said that he checked the circle for traffic when he entered the circle but did not see me. ... so obviously he did not check very well. ;)

Normally that early in the morning there is no traffic by that circle since two of the exits go to shopping complexes. I think he was just on "autopilot" going through the circle.

To the guy in a white Datsun Go with GP reg and a rusting dent below the rear left light that tried to run me over/off the road. You now see how fast I can catch up to you in traffic. Next time it will be my foot doing the talking, not my fist.

Give us more info this sounds like a good story.

R44 then turned off towards Polkadraai? If it is I drove behind this same SOB this morning, just after 7am. He can't drive. He was all over the place.

I was going down bird street, left home at 6:36 and this was 15 minutes into the ride so happened about 6:51. I stick as far to the side as possible, the minibus taxis and I look out for each other. All of a sudden I hear this guy hooting and as I turn around this car is almost touching my right leg then speeds off (1 on the map below). I'm not sure if he thought he would get away but I also took off, went up to 40km/h (speed spike between 1 and 2 on the graph) and stopped next to him at the traffic circle (2 on the map below). He just laughed as I bashed against his passenger side window. Then drove more towards the sidewalk in an attempt to block me off. I gave up and rode off across Die Braak.

In the 7 years I have been commuting I have had a very few incidents, all of them were people not looking and in all cases they apologised. This is the first time I encounter something like that. Should I ever see that car again I will not only rearrange his mirror but give him some extra ventilation too.

@Craig I think he made it to the R44 before I did, I got on the R44 at 7 so it could very well be the same guy.

It is then as I left the house at 6h50 and got off the R44 just after 7am. The way he drives he will eventually meet a horrible death. It's only a matter of time.

I've seen way too many drivers try and purposely go close to bikers or purposely swerve towards them when they lane splitting - its crazy!

I've seen that too, I was not even lane splitting this morning, just sticking to the side of the road. If I do lane split and someone does that I am agile enough to just go around the other side of the vehicle.

I hope that guy tries his antics with a group of proper roadies. Those guy flip out for no reason.
