Based on some of your responses you haven’t understood some of what I have tried to communicate which may be an issue from my side as I am terrible at explaining what goes on in my head. As for the one point you said is BS, at least one of my previous insurance companies will challenge you on that, they paid to have my car at the time repaired in full.

Anyway, moving on, I have at least one more video to load in the morning but who knows how many I’ll get on my trip to work...

Traffic started moving at a traffic light, I moved forward when traffic came to a stop and the guy behind me wasn't paying attention and rear ended me. I have done similar when turning in to a road using a slip lane and thought the guy in front had gone but hadn't and I rear ended him. Both are fairly common accidents and luckily not high speed or hugely damaging.

well both are common accidents because of lack of attention , So i get why you nervous to move.
And now I also get why you say you not great at explaining things :) - insurance paid because the guy rear ended you , no matter the circumstances unfortunately it's the guy at the back fault - not sure how they can challenge me because its supposedly a danger to move forward - the same can be said if you don't move forward - person will assume you are going to and you dont and boom - both scenarios person at the back doesn't pay attention , not really your fault for not moving or moving.

At least this places your reaction to traffic moving forward at a robot or stop street into context.
No one can or should or may criticise you for being extra cautious now.

But at the same time, there is a difference between traffic creeping forward and a gap being created because cars clear an intersection.

The ripple effect behind you may be significant IF it now causes grid lock at the next interesection. And that is where the comments ( the valid ones) are originating.

It was simply a scenario I put forward but it wasn't necessarily the reason I didn't close the gap to the car in front in the video I posted. At least someone can see how terrible I am at explaining things :ROFL:

You would need to know the intersection and traffic flow at it to understand why I didn't close the gap but I do understand where the comments are coming from and have taken them on board.
 
Johannesburg is becoming more and more like Durban when traffic lights are out, even simple intersections are becoming a mess, this one wasn't too bad but I am sure I had right of way over the red car turning across my 'lane'...


I am not sure why they didn't just not turn and leave a gap, they are clearly not going to go far due to traffic but choose to turn and block half the intersection...

He had a low speed fender bender, and if that traumatised someone to the extent that they’re extra cautious forever afterwards I’d hate to see their reaction to a serious accident. I had a head on (idiot overtook on a blind rise coming towards me). The passenger in the other vehicle burnt to death while I lay in the road waiting for an ambulance, both vehicles completely burnt out. If I took extra caution every time I went around a corner or over a blind rise, I’d never get where I was going. You have to deal with it, learn whatever lessons you can from it, and move on with your life.

Just asking cause the mess when robots are out, unfortunately isn't a new thing in joburg :(

I don't think traumitised is the right word, but after having a truck squeeze my xr6 like a tube of tooth paste because he did not see me in his side mirror has made me pretty wary when overtaking them.

No, my parents live in Ballito and I visit factories my employer owns in Durban from time to time, Johannesburg drivers used to be a lot better at traffic lights that were out than they are at the moment from my experience.
 
i agree. people who dont take up the gap are causing unneccissary congestion.

also that putt along in traffic with a huge gap infront of them because they have no clutch control or are too lazy to hold their foot at a constatn spot on the peddle

My niece is a new driver and gets nervous overtaking trucks so slows down alongside them. I'm like lady all you're doing now is potentially being in their blind-spot for longer. I tell her, If you don't like being next to them, speed up and complete the move as quick as possible.
If you're wondering why my niece, a woman, was driving and I was in the passenger seat, I have no defense.

Just on the U-turn's they technically not illegal (im saying this and im cringing at the same time :( ) at this intersection at least from what i can see of the signs and road markings - not a safe maneuver nonetheless.
Complicated but add it to the I was this many years old when i learned

It is a strange intersection, I looked at some other footage but couldn't spot any no uturn signs like you mentioned but there are no turning signs present.
