Bad Driving thread

My excitement on Saturday: A guy in a bakkie stopped in front of me. On the N1 in the fast lane near William Nicol.

I'd been sitting behind this guy for a while, and he was dawdling along at 100 in the fast lane of the N1 South. I flash my lights a few times as he was holding everything up, and then he started slowing down, slower and slower. I went past him on the emergency lane (didn't want to be rear-ended!), and I saw in the rear view mirror as he came to a stop, then slowly crossed all 4 busy lanes so that he could take the Wm Nicol offramp that he was about to miss.
They will not make any attempt to understand your world or follow its rules.

This morning some asswhole taxi bullied his way in. Drove next to my car, and came closer and closer...

I decided that that was not the hill I want to die on, and backed off. You never know if those id10ts will pop a lead jellybean off at you...

Nah, it ain't worth a damaged car and a possible hospital visit.

Nowadays you need to be more assertive, especially at 4-way crossings and the such, otherwise you'll be stuck for a long, long time waiting for people to stop for you.

Asswholery and idiocy is contagious it seems.

Are you a motorist being harassed by taxi patrollers? This is what you need to do

It’s hard to fathom that someone in any law-abiding country could be forced off the road for giving a lift to their neighbour, but this is where we currently find ourselves as a nation.

Following a spate of recent incidents in which patrollers associated with the taxi industry have allegedly harassed and ‘fined’ motorists for having passengers in their cars, law enforcement authorities have reiterated that these actions are not in any way legal.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, which comprises of police, home affairs, justice, correctional services and defence, confirmed on Friday that taxi association patrollers have no legal authority to pull over, impound or fine ‘private’ vehicles for giving lifts to passengers.

It said only law enforcement agencies have the authority to pull over motorists and impound vehicles or issue fines for any Road Traffic Act violations.

Motorists who are victimised by these patrollers are strongly urged to report these incidents to the police and press criminal charges for these illegal acts.

I need to stop reading/watching stuff like this. This country is out of control. Makes me question my choice to move back to SA from the UK.

But in general, the driving in this place is appalling! And what's with the culture of this place now (not just taxis) where people stick their hand out the window while pushing in a queue of traffic as if to say, you wait while I push in, my agenda is more important than yours.

Today was BF and the morons and 'roid poppers were out in full force.
Went to the shop for some essentials at 5pm, and the scene was quite impressive. Not only bad driving, bad parking too, and Mr Main Main Muscle standing outside with his biceps bulging so everyone can see his shitty tats and invisible watermelons

Did you tune him, “listen, Boet”?

What the hell is happening to bakkie drivers and why are they all becoming such *****? To the douche bags in their toyotas I'm glad you've bought the single most hijacked car in south africa, it's like buying a car for a Darwin award.
Show the doctor where the naughty Hilux touched you on your Picanto.

The turn off to my place is on a blind rise on the main back road. I'm on my way home and see a car stopped on the hill on the opposite side like they ran out of petrol.

They can just roll the car to the shoulder out the way,but chose to stop in the middle of the lane.

As I get closer I see he is actually peeing on his own rear tyre. In full view of everyone no consideration to pull to the side of the road or go behind a tree.

I actually have no words for the sheer arrogance and stupidity.

Don't get me started. :) I see this more often than I would like, and I'm talking about the CBD of Cape Town nogal. It's literally disgusting, and I'm talking about the mindset rather than the physical action, but that too.

Buckle up, we’re in for a wild “silly season”.

Intro]
I said upside down, you're turning me
You're giving love instinctively
'Round and 'round, you're turning me

[Chorus]
Upside down
Boy, you turn me inside out
And 'round and 'round
Upside down
Boy, you turn me inside out
And 'round and 'round

Upside Down - Diana Ross

Watch: Disaster narrowly averted as jackknifed truck veers into oncoming lane on Van Reenen’s Pass

South Africa’s roads have seen some tragic accidents over the festive season, but thankfully disaster was averted in the incident recorded in this video, posted on YouTube by SA Trucker.

A passenger of a truck was recording a video of the driver going up Van Reenen’s Pass in KwaZulu-Natal on December 19, when another truck travelling in the opposite direction lost control and jackknifed.

The truck then veered into the oncoming lane, but thankfully the driver being recorded in the video was not travelling too fast and was alert enough to bring his truck to a stop, averting disaster by mere metres.

It is also incredibly lucky that no other motorists were caught in the crossfire of this truck driver veering head-on into the oncoming lane.

But it also serves as a valuable reminder that accidents like this can happen in a split second, and sticking to the speed limit and paying attention can either help you avert disaster or reduce the severity of a collision, even if you are the “innocent victim” of another out-of-control vehicle.

Incidentally, Van Reenen’s Pass saw another multi-vehicle pile-up on Thursday, close to the scene of the jackknifed truck. Traffic was backed up heavily in both directions on the day.
