Bad HDD after 9 months

The WD Blue range is meant for desktop use, not for use in a NAS that runs 24x7. The WD Red range is designed for NAS use, so replace it with a WD Red and you should be ok.

I searched about red vs blue drives: 2 schools of thought. Those who say that a desktop disk will work fine in a nas and those who say its worth the bucks because the red drives are more reliable. I think the only reason to use a red is when its hardware raid which nas single drive is not.

my qnap was set to shut down several hours every night...

Did you try to reflash the qnap to see if you can revive it? They have the firmware on the product download page.

Don't do reflash a suspected drive. It will make things worse.

I think the drive connection has lost contact during moving. It could be a faulty power or data connector. Re-seat plugs and check again. Also check whether is recognised on some other PC.

Not exactly what I thought, but glad you sorted it out.
