Bad Latency

well ive been having problems all morning with the internet tbh,I heard there was a problem down the line somewhere.

Think that might be the problem ?

Any other guiys here on 3G that experience bad latency that isnt normally like this?

There was a connection fault on the 14th of August on the Saix line, and telkom is still working on it. Latencies to US should be even more affected. Can read about it on the news section of myadsl.

Pings still around 600ms here, so guess not resolved yet.

BUt what I mean is will my latency come down from 800-1500? Or is that just normal?

For 3G that seems to be normal, anything between 600 and 1500ms.
Though that is playable wireless just gives too many lag spikes to my likeing...

If you thinking of getting 3g for wow dont. Rather get ADSL its cheaper and more stable. The past month I have been getting terrible connections.

It used to be 600 - 900 ms which is excellent. Lately is been 1000 - 3000ms using 3g. totally unplayable all you can do is mine and sit by the auction house. (my signal strength is 97 - 100%). No Instances, no battlegrounds, no raids.......

Trust me rather go for adsl, its alot more stable.

Latency

I have a 4mbps unshaped account and the exchange is down the road from me I average between 350-450 mms sometimes 550 but this week was hurendous with me getting 600-700 and at times 1500

adsl is not option

Then consider playing with dial-up, and getting downloads via a friend. Dial-up works well in non crowded zones with latency around 450ms. In crowded situations like bg's or raids packet loss is a problem.
Fixxed lines are by far the best option still for games, packet losses in wireless technologies is just insane... (your facing the wrong way, out of range, etc pops up with adsl once a week or so, and about every second pull with a wireless conection... )

Hey Volstruis,

Last nights breakdown:

Upto around 7.30pm: Around 800 - 900ms
From 7.30pm onwards: From 1.5k - 5k (thats when my son decided that TV would be more entertaining)

From 11pm onwards: 500 - 800ms ( I eventually logged at around 12.15am)

Vodacom 3G
Signal Strength: 5 bars (-61dbm)

Has this been happening often? Yup for over 3 weeks now.

I will appreaciate it. I just want to check how far of par mine is going.

from 6pm-7pm ----->800-1500 spiked at 3000
9pm-12am -----> 600-800 spiked at 1100

from 6pm-7pm ----->800-1500 spiked at 3000
9pm-12am -----> 600-800 spiked at 1100

I was only on for about 30 minutes doing my AH thingy

about 07:30 - 08:00

Ping was around 562 - 669 in Origrim for that 1/2 hour.
MTN 3G

I posted my pings in the /g chat so Jase can confirm that. AFAIK he had briliant pings as well for a change.

Hi guys

Just a question to those who are using unshaped adsl accounts.

What is the improvement over shaped accounts?

Currently I average 650ms - 800ms pings on my shaped account in WOW.

Unshaped Adsl

Hi
I have an unshaped account line speed 4mbps I average around 350-550 mainly around 450 but that could also be cause I am close 2 the exchange.

3G last night was actually quite okay.

It started off at around 1k but improved and settled down at around 600 - 700.

10pm I was sitting with 400 - 600ms.

And in my last BG I actually could pop a few stuns on those flag grabbers.

Edit:
Maybe it's a conspiracy as a VC rep phoned me earlier that evening to discuss my complaint with them.....
