HAD TV FOR 3 MONTHS - RETURNED DAMAGED UNECONOMICAL TO REPAIR !

My mom has a service contract with Early Bird Services Richards Bay. She requested that they repair her Diamond DTV-29NC, in September 2010. 2 MONTHS later after numerous phone calls and promises that the required spares have been ordered and have arrived we were informed that they now require the remote control to program the TV.

1 month later, Dec 2010, more phone calls and promises we were told they would deliver. Nothing happened, more phone calls, more visits to their shop , more promises. Nothing! Eventually they said they would deliver the 'REPAIRED' TV to us. Waited another 2 days , they eventually delivered on 20/12/2010. I and the Early Bird technician then attempted to tune in the TV , was not able to get picture. Called the manager to come and tune it in, he too was unable to tune in the TV. After assuring us it had 'worked' in his shop.

He left promising to return shortly with 'spares' to fix it. Waited a few hours, no response. We then took the TV to a 2nd party and requested a quote for the repairs. They reported that the TV was so badly damaged after the attempted repair that it would cost > R 1000.00 to fix. We contacted their HQ , put on hold ,no answer!:mad:

Any advice ?? I have logged a complaint with Hellowpeter , still awaiting a responce.

Baseball bat?

This sort of service is becoming all to frequent in SA :(

Their hello peter profile looks sad, looks like they don't respond.
I think if they don't respond you'll need to warn them that you're going to take them to court, because they've left you with a non-working device after paying for fixing it.
I don't see any other option, maybe there are others I don't know.

Small claims is your friend in this case.

yes it seems like its the only way. Still unable to get hold of anyone in higher management , waiting a day or so for hols to end. In the mean time going to the papers.

We had an incient with them years ago when I was a lightie. Out TV was sent in for repairs, can't remember what for. Eventually they brought it back - the guy literally dropped it off and ran. Only when we took a closer look did we realise why - the set had obviously been dropped: bits and peices of its innards were hanging off, broken. Complete mess - as in throw on rubbish dump and walk away. Of course they denied everything. So clearly nothing has changed in what must be a good 20 plus years. Go to the press, embarass them in public, though they most likely just deny any wrong-doing. Very hard to find good service in SA anymore.

Early bird services service started dropping a few years ago....they have been taken over by Mastercare, maybe you can try calling their head office and see what you can get. If you check out their website it should give you a regional managers name and cell phone number you can call.....dont let them get away with this

I think that if they actually invest in training with their technicians and helping them keep up dated with new technology this would not happen....then again it also depends on the the technician himself. If the company he works for is not interested in improving his skills he should be taking it upon himself.
