I succumbed to a Vodacom Weekender contract on Saturday for a number of reasons and have had nothing but problems ever since. I got handed the really pretty Sony Ericsson K800i along with the contract and have been unable to connect to the internet on it at all.

On Monday I spoke to no less than 6 Vodacom helpdesk staff who kept reassuring me they'd send me the internet settings for the phone. I still haven't received anything from them...yesterday I tried to download the settings from the vodacom4me website...it said the setting were sent...I'm still waiting...I eventually went global and went to the www.sonyericsson.com website and downloaded the internet setting for the phone there...I got them. But the internet is still not working. Yesterday I held on to the phone (082 1082 helpdesk) for a combined (more than an) hour waiting for someone to answer my call. This morning I managed to get hold of someone who promises me something will happen in 4 to 6 hours! She's logged a response with the IT department. I should jolly well hope so.

I can't stand this incompetency. They draw you into their contracts and then can't sort out the problems when they occur, and this to a NEW customer. I don't think i'm ever going to do this phone contract ever again through Vodacom.

Oh, and the cherry on the top...on Saturday when asked if I wanted caller ID activated I said yes and the consultant ticked the appropriate block...guess what...I have no caller ID. I had to ask for that to be activated as well. That'll take 1-2 hours.

Gazer, can you browse on the phone itself? If not, your sim is not enabled for data yet. If so, then it is your pc connection to the phone that's the problem.

If it's the sim, try a different simcard that you know is working for data. On MTN for example you can get a sim for R1 and buy airtime for R15. Then activate data by dialling *123*1#.

I have a V600i and the only way I could get it to connect was to install the software that came with the phone.

Otherwise, use the sledge hammer approach, take your pc and phone to Vodaworld and let them sort it out for you.

The sim is enabled for data (it was used in another phone and I could sucessfully browse on it there).
