Bahrain bans Blackberry chat groups

Bahrain on Wednesday became the first country in the world to take legal action against users of the chat service associated with Blackberry mobile phones who engage in sharing local news.

Ah another Middle Eastern country trying to "protect" it's citizens from the evil uncensored news.

Makes me sad every time I read this kind of story. Seems outrageous to me that information/news can be deemed criminal.

Give it a few months and you will see the media in SA will say Blackberry is evil just like MXIT.

a friend of mine was actually telling me about this happening in saudi the other day. apparently bb chat is the only way that young people can flirt without getting caught. which is really why the service is taking flack. apparently if you really like a girl, you toss a blackberry in her car. some guy even has his chat pin on his number plate. there were fears this was going to happen. i would have expected saudi to have done it first.

The only way to keep people following you blindly (read, religion... and don't start bashing me for this opinion) is to starve them with information and then "lead" them out of "harms" way. I think the biggest threat against the Middle-East isn't America or some kind of terrorist group, but information opening people's eyes.
