Bali for honeymoon?

The ausies accent it's not the first time I'm reading that.. Tell me though, traveling around in Bali? How was it? Safety? And what should I be aware of? Anything I should do in Bali in specific to make the honeymoon special?

Travelling is Bali is a bit hectic to be honest. You are staying in the south east of the Island, Nusa Dua - its a hotel compound. The bulk of the activities will be found further north. On the map, its not too far, but roads on Bali are small and there is always a lot of traffic. Be prepared for that.

I found a reliable taxi driver on trip advisor and also a taxi driver recommended from my hotel. Both were great and charged about the same price. They will ask you what you want to do, and put together a rough itinerary for you. They charge hourly rates, and if you plan an 8 hour tour, if you go over the duration, they normally dont have an issue. If you want o go out partying, they will hang out in the van/car while you party the night away.

Safety wise, its a pretty safe island, there is not a lot of crime - being South African, you probably more alert then the other tourists. In Nusa Dua you not going to have a problem with safety. I left my belongings on the beach at my hotel, went for a long walk and came back and everything was there.

Some nice things to do with your lady is to go to the Rock Bar at the Ayana resort - really nice place for sundowners - its a bit pricey though. Go visit Mount Batur, only way check out the coffe plantations, and drink some kopi luwak, you can also check out Ubud. For your lady Seminyak is lovely place - lots of boutique shops and ladies will love shopping there. Nice restaurants and bars in the area to.

I didn't use a travel agent, did all my bookings myself.. Used Singapore airlines which are actually having a special which worked out to R16000.00 for flights for 2 with return.. 15 hour flight both ways and paid R23500.00 at the Conrad Hilton nusa dua works out to about R40 000.00 worth it for 9 days?

Bali is not very expensive. If you intend to do most of your activities in the Nusa Dua compound, prices will be a bit higher.

When you say activities, what is there to do?

Thanks so much, you put me at ease!
Will definitely take all he advice and definitely stay away from people claiming that I won a scratch tickets

Thanks mate

The scratch ticket thing is not necessarily an outright scam. Its way for some of the hotels to market their timeshare plans. You scratch the card, says you win a prize. To actually get the prize you need to sit through their timeshare presentation and do their hotel tour etc. Of course still be cautious.

That's what travelling's all about - you gotta take some chances, you gotta learn to figure out who's trustworthy, gotta be street smart. Luckily my wife's far better at most of the above-mentioned than I.

Also, it helps that in most cases people could charge you "high prices" that would still be below what the Hotel / tour company would charge. So they don't need to rob you as they're already making good money off you, but you're happy cos you're still saving.

Well it's a gamble but seems like a good gamble I guess I'll have to take risks but calculated ones

Will try my best to read in to it

Restaurants, spa's, shopping. If you do those outside Nusa Dua, it will be cheaper, but you have to drive through the traffic. Its a trade off.

The roads and traffic and slightly annoying drives, I've read about it but I'm pretty sure once you get to the destination you start to feel that it was worth it ?

Very important, do I need a visa for Bali? If so, how do I go about with getting it?

All good. Shout if you have more questions - happy to help you out.

Of course it will be worth it, but take into account the travel time in your planning.

Another tip with the metered taxis - When leaving the hotel, they will call a taxi for you - usually bluebird metered taxi's. No problem the meter will run, you pay what you see on the meter. Going back to the hotel is different story, you may have to go with other taxi company - and they may not want to run the meter, use the price with the metered guy as guide to negotiate the price back - you may have to pay a little bit more.

They may have Uber in Bali now - worthwhile finding out. (get a data card for your phone)

Thanks for the heads up, will most definitely keep that in mind.. Any laws or things I should be aware of that we not used to?

Singapore airlines is the business!

Changi airport is my favourite airport in the world. Plus, if you have a long overlay on Changi until your connecting flight to Bali, the airport gives you a free bus tour of Singapore. Leave your chewing gum at home.
