I have not seen this issue discussed before therefore the new thread.

If I do not use my 3Gig/6Gig or 9Gig before the end of the month, will it be rolled over to the next month?

This is what is being done with cell phone accounts and I can not see why it should not apply with bandwidth usage.

If I for instance project that my usage will be somewhere at two or just above it will be better for me to get a 3Gig account if the spare bandwith could be rolled over, than to get a 1Gig account and buy 1 or 2 Extra gigs per month when I need it.

What do you think?

it gets reset, thats what the website says, when I asked the question beofre to support they confirmed this although they might change it so that you can keep any extra Gbs you have paid for but your original monthly usage (3GB by default) will get reset at the beginning of a new month, but as it is right now it gets reset wether you have 2Mb remaining or 50Gb

If WBS wants to avoid end of month rushes that are going to impact on QoS or will require the commitment of additional "on demand" bandwidth that will presumably cost extra, they will change their minds to permit at least a one month rollover.

Maybe :
Rollover up to a total available of 2xPackage. That means if your package is 3GB, and you used half of it, the remainder gets carried over giving you 4.5GB(1.5+3). If you used only 1GB the following month, you're starting balance for month 3 will be 6GB, losing 0.5Gb, since you've reached your cap on total available.

Might even be sold as upgrades to the existing packages at say R50 more per month, called iBurst UpSize :D

roll over of base (included) transfer would be great, but i wouldn't expect it. what i would expect is that if i bought extra transfer that rolls over. hell i paid for it, i should get to use it when i want too ;)

Excellent motivation for WBS to allow bandwidth that customers have paid for to carry-over to the next calendar month or billing period or however WBS decides to implement it *Jedi mind trick*.

The fact is we iBursters must get the bandwidth that we are paying for - if a trend develops where iBursters prefer to use up their bandwidth at the end of the month, there are likely to be many angry iBursters if ther base-station falls over when they are trying to use what they've paid for. It would be less hassle for WBS to just add unused bandwidth from the previous month to the following month's bandwidth allowance.

yes you have paid for the original 3GB (or 6 or 9) but I dont think anyone will get through a month on a 3Gb package with any significant amount of bandwith remaining. The extra Gbs are my property, so they need to either carry the extra unused Gbs over or they need to only charge me for the amount I used

I agree with having a rollover... but realistically a maximum of 1GB should be rolled over...well that's my thought anyway !

now, how can't u use the amount you purchase? if you can't then purchase a cheaper package. :)

also remember that your connection isn't disconnected after you reach the about of your bandwitdh used. all that happens is that you are slowed down. at the moment, it seems to be faster than what they say. I get get to about 20kb/sec and nothing more, which is wonderful. hope they keep this speed up for when you have reached the "cap"

well, enjoy!

yeah but the point is for "freedom" which they say we have its not that free. Look at it liek this, say I am happy on 3GB but occasionally I like to download extra stuff so I buy an extra 6GB, now it doesn't happen often enough for me to upgrade to the 9GB package, but it happens from time to time. So i buy my 3GB and suddenly I'm called to asia to rescue a kid in a burning building on the 20th. I come back on the 2nd of a new month and I basically lost R800, they took it. However if i go over the 3GB buy a gig and buy 3 more gigs the gig I went over is subtracted from the 3GB leaving me with 2GB, which means they can take from us when it isn't fair and we cannot take from them. they are saying they can charge us whenever they feel like it but we cant use the bandwith when we choose.

Its a rip off, just do the numbers, they aren't meeting us half way, I think this needs to be thought out and this is the critical part for me as a customer because for me to stay with iburst i want to know 2 things.. a) I have some way, some package or 3rd party service so that I can once again be uncapped and b) I want to know if I BUY bandwith, then it is mine, I own it and I can use it whenever I want to.

Bandwidth Rollover Beethoven

Here is a thought, I like everyone else pay for there bandwidth included in there package monthly, ok

Now if Slimothy (or anyone)buys an extra 1gb and maybe i didint use 500 megs for 2 months - then i have effectively lost 1 gb, so have WBS IN FACT RESOLD MY 1GB to Slim???

IS THAT SMOKE AND MIRRORS- WBS?

yeah exactly, they are trying to skim off the top without us noticing. Its bad enough they do it with the original 3GB (which is unethical) but when they do it with the extra bandwith that I bought on top, it amounts to theft. Lets say they skim 5GBs worth, over the course of months or even a day if I bought 5GB at the end of the month, then thats R795 they have stolen from me. R795 that I paid over and got nothing back for. R79.50 for ever 500MB.

I tried thinking of an equivelent service that does something like this, I went through the usual, water, electricity and the only one I could think of is Telkom with thier phone service.

And nothing about all this has been communicated to customers at all, theres no warning on the bandwith usage page when buying the Gbs, I never received an email, phone call or letter. If you're a customer and don't happen to stumble on a thread on this forum (and most iBurst customers won't) then you are 100% in the dark.

Would expect it to be similar to cell phone contracts, on MTN, Vodacom and Cell C it rolls over up to a limit. The bandwidth implications and constraints are actually quite similar.

Rollover of all unused bandwidth would be excellent. For purchased bandwidth over and above a package it's "a must". But I guess these things are designed by number-crunchers who bank on users not utilizing their full bandwidth. So if all bandwidth was automatically rolled over, the packages would probably have been more expensive anyway.

Looking at the individual packages, I reckon the 1Gig only exists to compete with Vodacom3G (which it probably doesn't).

The 3Gig is what we've all been expecting anyway.

The 6Gig is overpriced, compared to the 3 and 9. It will only be worth it if you use between 5-6 Gb a month, and its only marginally cheaper than having the 3Gig package and buying an extra 3Gb.

The 9Gig is worth it if you are likely to use more than 6Gb. A lot cheaper than any of the other packages per Gb. Even if you only use 7Gb it is cheaper than the 6Gig package. Having P2P priority thrown in makes it even more worthwhile. If I find I can't cope with 3Gb, I'll probably go for this one.

But why no unlimited/unshaped option?

The fairest way for WBS to implement this is to give a different account log in for the extra bandwidth, so you could keep that for work or another use as someone mentioned earlier, and then your current account should really accrue to either 3 months or a "x"gb figure.
That way you could save say 500 meg peices, and accrue them to d/load those linux isis or whatever.
The leftovers could actually be put in to that separate account.

food for thought- maybe another poll?

Yeah, thats what I am in need of, the only reason I want local uncapped is because then I could sign up with NukeCap or something similar and have unlimited international but ideally rather than having to find ways around the problem I'd like WBS just to come out with an uncapped option that I pay for which means they'll have more chance of keeping me when the next service comes along with uncapped international.
