Banking union Sasbo has been interdicted from proceeding with what would have been the biggest banking strike in 99 years, the Labour Court in Braamfontein ruled on Friday morning.
The union and about 50 000 of its members planned to hold marches across major cities on Friday to protest retrenchments in the banking sector. Sasbo is an affiliate of trade union federation Cosatu.

Thats a pity.... I wanted to see all their members realise they made no difference to the average persons banking for the day, and to give the banks even MORE reason to trim staff at the branches.

I just went to put in some petrol, chaos at the first garage and same thing at the second one, just better service. I think the panic was what was going to make this strike happen.

Weird, it seems to have made zero difference in and around Durban today.... traffic was normal, the garage I stopped at was normal... Even the atms at the garage weren't choked with people

My neck of the woods was laid back as well.

ABSA banking website is slow as hell right now. Had to close the window and re-log 3 times just to see my balances and make a payment. Probably too many people doing their banking today.

It's the 26th, surprised it's working at all.

Apparently some ATM's are running dry as well, guess the attempt at causing a bank run half worked.

Tomorrow's going to be interesting.

And no doubt banking HR offices all over the country will be very busy on Monday morning.

They will protest regardless of what the labour court has to say.
This is not the first interdict in history of strikes. Tens of strikes have been interdicted before and unions complied. In instances where there's defiance, employers have the right to lock out striking employees I think. Here, the unions would beg employers for mercy...
