Hi there all,

Just curious about what everyone has done with the bar at their wedding?

Everyone has an opinion on what to do - looking for what you guys have actually done? Open bar, bar tab, cash bar, etc?

Future Mrs is saying we should have a cash bar - is this rude or am I just old-fashioned?

EDIT: Thanks for the responses everyone will have a look through them and discuss with the Mrs. And also based on what everyone has said prepare for divorce lol

I ended up paying for us, and the parentals.
Wine on the tables, cooldrink I paid for, anything else for their account

We had an open bar for soft drinks, alcohol was for their own account.

No vax - no booze. Passport required.

Cash bar, otherwise people just go overboard and get pissed on your expense.
Wine at the table, and soft drinks free.

Even better, have a smaller wedding and save the money for the future. At the end of the day years later no one really cares how big your wedding was.

Depends on how many people. You can also budget for an open bar, that becomes a cash bar after cut off amount is reached.

Many ways to skin a cat.

Ultimately, do what you want. You can have an open bar with vintage Dom Perignon flowing from a fountain and folk will find something to complain about.
We did an open bar but our set up meant we were able to buy the booze we wanted and then return what was not used after and we only paid for what we used.
Open bar with a limit if you're worried folk will go crazy.

But I've been to weddings with cash bars - honestly not a big deal.

*Edit - ultimately do what you want actually means do what the future Mrs wants. As you already know it's what you want :)
*2nd Edit - even if you go the cash bar route, make sure certain people don't have to pay - mums, dads, bridesmaids, best man etc.

I did a cash bar.

The only two alcoholics where Pineapple Smurf and Granny Pineapple

We placed champagne on each table and propably a bottle of wine or three. It was a breakfast wedding so everyone went home to get drunk the evening.

We pre-bought bubbles that we liked. Then had a tab for the venue provided drinks (selection of beer, whiskey, cocktails, wine.

Cash bar - each table had a bottle of red/white/bubbly/juice

People arnt offended just pop it in the invite

Married about 8 years ago

Went to home affairs, got married there, spent the money for the wedding on buying a place to stay. That helped out a few years later too get a bigger place.
Weddings, biggest expense for one day I've ever seen.

My wedding consisted of my parents (and their spouses) , plus the wifes parents,
So we paid for everything food wise.

BUT, most weddings i have been to are either cash bar, or cold drinks are free with the rest being cash

My first wedding there was a selection of alcohol and a bar limit, I am doing the same for my next wedding except that I will cover the bar tab where my parents covered it for my first wedding.
