I am looking at buying a basic and I mean a very basic gaming pc for my kids (14 and 11) I just would like it to be able to run most of the modern games . Where can I go to to have a look online and what would you recommend I look at ?
Thanks in advance .

I'd recommend an Intel E7400 (R1500), G31 motherboard (R600), ATI HD4670 graphics card (R1100) and 2GB - 4GB RAM (R300 - R600). Depending on your budget.

I'd get an AMD system... With the current socket situation, it will make the PC more upgradable in the future... Also AMD motherboards are cheaper ;)

I haven't really seen any cheaper than an Intel G31 board (entry-level). Maybe R50 max. cheaper.

but the AMD boards include more features hey, if you want to go out and buy the cheapest shyte mobo, i think Intel wins, but for a mobo in the R1000 AMD trumps.

As for those two systems I gave, they both should be equally powerful, but I think the AMD may have the upper hand, will look it up (it should have higher bandwidth)

R4000 AMD build:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition Processor R 996

MSI AMD K9A2GM V3 Motherboard - Socket AM2+ R 608

Force3D HD4670 512mb R983.80

Kingston ValueRam Memory - DDR2-800MHz - 2GB R 305

Western Digital CAViAR SE WD3200JS 320gb, S-ata2 , 7200rpm , 8mb R652.59

Cooler Master Extreme Power PSU - 390w R370.39

Total: R3915.78

That's excluding case and optical drive. All components from take2 and prophecy.

Agreed. Whether it's shyte or not is relative to needs of the PC owner. G31s kick ass for the non-OCer. :D

Just get a cheap case that comes with a PSU? Also if you shop around you can get some better prices... If you want cheap, try to get an iSonic Chassis... They are made in South Africa and come with PSU's...

I know landmark stocks them, bought my iSonic PSU from there...
