Bats in Roof

They quite active at night and a noisy bunch, specially close to our room. As I type this their high pitch screeching is tearing through my coffee deprived mind. Would be nice if they could leave.

Be thankful you don't have one of these guys living in your ceiling.

The sound of their tail dragging on the ceiling boards is very unnerving

Provide them with alternative accommodation in the form of previously mentioned bat boxes or similar. The bats have a crucial role in insect control.

Then you can either put largish bundles of khakibos in your ceiling or, failing that ( and what worked very well for me), moth balls. I just stuck my upper body through the manhole in the ceiling and tossed about 4 packets' worth of moth balls throughout the roof area of our guest cottage. Worked very well. Needs replenishing about 3 or 4 times annually.

We have nagapies that sometimes stay in our roof. I know there are at least 2 adults and a baby. Surprisingly noisy little buggers.

They haven't been back for weeks now though. Think it's because of a neighbour's cat patrolling our garden these days.

Someone calling?

Bats are a protected species in SA. There are many businesses who will relocate them, and I think this is a time of year when you can relocate them. They are seasonal and certain times of the your you may not disturb them. If they are an issue, call someone and do the right thing.

Bat boxes, I have them on the farm, but the fookers rather live in the shed.

I did ask them to remove the disturbance. When I got home my wife was gone.

When I first move into this house, it was neglected for years and years. No working anything. So I had to get into the roof. Found a large population of bats. Scared the living hell out of me, I wasn't expecting them.

So every night I would walk around the house figuring out how they get into the roof to begin with. Got a few cans of expand foam and when they left during the night. I started to plug their holes. Two nights later they moved on.

The insulation was filled with all kind of nasty business so I pulled it out bit by bit and got new insulation and put it in. It was an easy job and found a few other problems I fixed as well. Tell you one thing the Electrician was grateful. I moved all the plumbing to the outside. It was a lot less expensive then having the contractor tracing the existing pipes.

Getting rid of the mice was a HUGE problem. In the end I resorted to glue traps. They are not the best option but poisoning them was a bad idea. People around me had pets and chances where good that they would get a poisoned mouse or rat. After the first month I started to win. Mice and rats was all but gone and I started plugging up the holes they used. Filled it with Injection mortar. It is expensive but it worked. I burned the glue traps so that they wouldn't be a problem but it was a mission.

I wouldn't mind if I get a house for free and it comes with bats. Then they can stay.

But I am renting and they not helping with the bill.

1. Collect their poop. Make coffee. Apparently it's a delicacy.
2. Get a cape. Fight crime. Date supermodels. Apparently also a delicacy.

It's only a delicacy if you feed them coffee beans. Otherwise it taste like Ricoffy I can only imagine.

2. Have to kill your mother and father first.

I understand why you would think that. The full transaction and total cost was never mentioned by me. It wasn't free, in total I paid R80k over its current market value. There is a whole story behind it but I am not going to get into it. I had to give up my grandmother's belongings for it. There was an exchange just not money.
