Johannesburg - A Vanderbijlpark man lost a tooth when he bit into a battery while eating a pizza from Debonairs.

Translator Kyle Robertson told Beeld he felt a white-hot pain shooting through his head and heard his tooth crack. He then saw he'd bitten into a small, round battery - the kind that would usually fit into a watch.

He was eating a sweet-and-sour chicken pizza with extra mozzarella from Debonairs in Randburg.

“I pulled off the cheese, the tastiest part of the pizza, and bit into it. One piece of cheese felt heavier than the rest but I didn’t pay attention to it and thought it was a bit of chicken or something.

“Afterwards I saw something like battery acid running from the battery but it didn’t burn me. It was a funny taste but I didn’t really taste anything when I bit into it.”

I must admit he sounds like a bit of a drama queen. Genuine story do you think?
A white hot pain no less... and battery acid? Someone is telling porkies or adding stuff for dramatic effect. The sad thing is that Debonairs melted cheese could be mistaken for battery acid I guess :D
 
You should always watch what you're eating. I hope Debonairs will be charged for this.
 
My one friend was talking about this on facebook and apparently debonairs claim that he put it in.

That said, it's going to be hard to prove either way.
Besides, how would they actually know it didn't end up there from their end?
 
Without being negative and looking on the positive side he must charge them whilst still amped - I mean Watt the f__K
 
Probably a hearing aid battery...they tend to fall out now and then because on some brands there's no "off" switch, instead, one has to open the battery compartment and swing it back from the connection.

It was the CR2032 variant, as you'd find in some of the watches. Not the small pea-sized battery.
But as the Debonairs franchisee said, he chucked a battery-pizza into the oven and it blew up (the battery, not the oven).

And as mentioned on N24, I think, that battery weighs next to nothing. You won't notice "a heavy piece of cheese".

How the hell can a little battery like that make a noticeable difference to the weight? /facepalm
 
So the guy got a battery, free-of-charge - what's the big deal?
 
The worst for me is getting olives on pizza from them, with the pips still in them.
