Just got my iPhone about a week ago, haven't download much app but something seems to be draining my battery like it's running out fashion!

I haven't seen anywhere where u can close an app after using it, could this be the reason? Just last night it was 100% charged, currently is sitting at 18%... haven't even listen to a full song.

Can anyone point me to a direction where I can Have long battery life?

I have an iPhone4 32GB and took the phone off charge at 5am and currently sit at 69%. My Wifi and 3G is permanently enabled. I also have all push notifications enabled. Bluetooth is off and Brightness is set to about 50%. I think the adjustment in brightness is the biggest influence on battery life.

I don't listen to music and the heaviest usage is Nike+ when I run for about 30 minutes. I get email updates, Facebook notifications and the odd browsing here and there. I did find that amongst the Apps the biggest battery-drainer was Skype and I have then switched to IM+ which works very well as a multi-IM client. My phone usage is minimal during the day (about 20 minutes) and 3G is only used for data during my 30 minute commute to/from work. I found that my phone's battery life in the first week was horrible, but nowadays I have not managed to get it to below 30% on regular usage by 7pm. I am not sure if this is related to "running in" the battery or if it was related to subsequent app updates (or just the removal of Skype).

Sure. Get rid of the Applecrap and buy a different phone :D

Whilst I wouldn't have been so blunt, I will admit that this is my sentiment too :p

The bottom line is that we are wired differently have different needs.

My Galaxy S has an application monitor which sits on the front "page" and I can monitor apps that haven't switched off properly.

I would have thought Apple would have thought of something like this? Isn't their an app which can monitor power usage?

Naturaly I'm a nokia fan...needed a new phone, All SP I visited couldn't give me a date when they expected to hav the N8 available.
And decided to look else where, so yep i'm new to the apple way of living. So far I can't say I'm impressed nor proud of my latest acquisition.

I will need to search to c if there is such an application...I don't even think application can be switched off, well maybe I don't know how

Double tap the home button, and the apps that are open in the background will appear at the bottom. Tap and hold 1 of them and they will all start to wiggle, with a red "no entry" sign at the top left of each icon. Tap the no entry sign to close down that app completely.

That won't save battery life. Apps running in the background don't use any CPU time.

What I've done with all my iphones and currently working very well on my iphone 4 is JB then install SB settings, then turn off GPS, 3G/EDGE.
I leave WLAN as I am using these all day and brightness is actually set a little brighter, i have email on push and from 10 am in the morning till about 12pm at night I generally drop to 80% battery life and thats with playing with the phone. If not played with i've gone 3 days and still been over 80%.
My conclusion is the data connection of the phone is the biggest hogger of battery. its 10:24 now that makes its 2 hours 24 mins since i took it off charge, done about 6 sms's and i'm still sitting at 100%.
Sbsettings makes it such a breeze to turn data on/off

i seem to recall reading somewhere that a restore and then "reset network settings" does the trick......

like i said above, and still running full wlan and brightness with emails being pushed constantyl

well technically u could just go turn off 3g and turn off celllular data, and see how it goes

There seem to be some improvement, switched off 3G n always clearing app from the recent list. My brightness is @ about 40% which isn't so bad.

But yeah thanks again....was really thinking I bought a piece of crap.

hi
download the app AUTO3G from cydia
when not in use it goes to edge

Thanks Bboy... I have followed your guidelines and its working like a charm. Took my phone off charge this morning at 7:15, and now, 3hours later, its sitting on 100%... ok I never use my phone much...just a few messages... but I am still impressed. Still way better than usual. Oh I'm also using an app called "Battery Magic" great app to manage your battery life.

Apologies if this question is too obvious. I've read the above a few times and can't figure this - With 3G/EDGE (that's all data right?) turned off how do you get your emails if you are not near wifi?
