I have 2 going on 5years now. These are in daily delivery vehicles doing only town mileage. (Which is bad for batteries because the battery never gets very long charge cycles)
Any contact numbers where I can get one for good price pwrhaps?

Lithium batteries are getting cheaper all the time.
My car's battery is on the way out so I've bitten the bullet and bought a LiFePo4 battery. These are the latest technology for bikes and cars and are much safer. Lithium Phosphate are the replacement for the old Li-ion.
I can't stand the monster lead acid battery in my car that wouldn't be out of place in a Greyhound bus. It weighs in at about 25kg. It's a biggen because my cars diesel so it needs plenty of cranking power and it's rated at 780CCA.
This little LiFePo4 weighs in at 2.3kg and pumps out 800CCA! and is a 45 amp hour. A replacement lead acid is about $250 (not OEM) and this is $540 delivered so I was prepared to go the extra $300 to save the planet. These new batteries last about 5 times longer and are environmentally friendly as they pose no threat once they're done with.
The battery is generic and comes with terminal blocks with M6 threaded holes. It can be mounted standing up, on it's sides or ends or upside down.

45 ah battery for a big diesel seems a little light. And the drawback with lithium batteries (other than the price) is that they explode when they short. Not a small pop either.

No, with an alternator, that doesn't matter - daily running around town is actually just what your battery wants - it's the ones that sit and aren't used that often that die soon. Out of every ten cars we sold, we probably replaced batteries in 3 of them, simply because the battery, fitted at the factory had sat for too long with only short bursts of being used.

Anyone know where the best place would be to get a new battery in Pretoria for my Polo? Just called Tyres and More, and they said their price is R1300, which seems a bit steep to me. I think he mentioned it was for a AtlasBX battery or something

Thought so. I was thinking of that online store, errol's tyres- their prices are quite good, but they don't have a fitment centre near me

Put an Exide EFB in my wife's i10 1.2 2010 for R819 at Battery Center. It is a 616CS size and the original Exide battery lasted from 2010 - 2015!

I just bought a Willard 646 from midas a few weeks ago for R995. The 646 is a strong battery for larger petrol as well as diesel vehicles. A battery for a petrol 1.4 or 1.6 polo should be much less.

I believe my Polo needs a 646 as well. Suppose I'm looking at the R1k mark then. Did you get anything on your trade in of your old battery?
Its not actually a trade in, there is a surcharge if you do not have your old battery. The surcharge is set at R171.

That all depends on where you are and what quality battery you want to buy.

Can I just ask, this price of R1300 that you were quoted, was this at TWT and did you eventually buy their battery? I'm considering buying one of TWT's batteries but is not familiar with the quality. I was quoted the following on a 652 battery: Atlas BX (2yr Warranty) R1495 and the Duracell Starter Premium (30mth warranty) R1495. Being the same price I would obviously go with the Duracell but not too sure about quality. I was also looking at SABAT batteries and was quoted on a 652 at R1010 (18mth warranty).
