Battery...which one to get...?

Can I just ask, this price of R1300 that you were quoted, was this at TWT and did you eventually buy their battery? I'm considering buying one of TWT's batteries but is not familiar with the quality. I was quoted the following on a 652 battery: Atlas BX (2yr Warranty) R1495 and the Duracell Starter Premium (30mth warranty) R1495. Being the same price I would obviously go with the Duracell but not too sure about quality. I was also looking at SABAT batteries and was quoted on a 652 at R1010 (18mth warranty).

No, not TWT, SuperQuick - however, I finally went to the guy down the road in our little town, and he gave me a new Willard for R 1000, so I was quite happy.

Ok thanks, I could probably get Willard with 12mth warranty from Vonde in Maitland which would be over R1000 but I was wondering how the Duracell with their 30mth warranty compare and if it's worth spending the extra few hundred rand. The Vonde facebook says to look out for Exide special in October. Will check pricing tomorrow.
Has anyone had any experience with TWT's Duracell batteries.

I've got a two year + two months guarantee with mine - for 1 k, that's good enough, and Willard were OE in VW anyway

The battery i currently have in is an Enertec which is the VW OEM battery. There is no other markings on the side of the battery. The battery has not been replaced yet and is 5 years old and i don't have any starting issues yet either. I'm just wanting to replace it because it's 5 yrs old and i am just concerned that it will give in anytime soon.

The OEM battery my g6 was a varta blacktop, it died after 3 years and I replaced it 2 months ago with a varta bluetop for about R1350.

My 2005 Polo's Varta battery was replaced last year after 9 years of service, you might still have a few years of service left. It's summer now and it will most probably give some warnings first before packing up completely.

Leave it exactly where it is - it will give you plenty of warning of dying - mine only became sluggish mid winter with me using the car very seldom - a battery is an amazing thing - a great friend had one for 17 years in his Toyota, but that was exceptional, and probably some sort of record!! :D

And if you read various threads then Varta is supposed to be one of the best batteries. I think VW has several brands as OEM.

That's also what i am thinking but I am just worried that it will just stop working one day and leave me stranded.

That's just my concern. With my other car i had 2 unfortunate experiences. The first time i drove to Caledon with several stops in and around the area. After spending the day there when we left my battery was completely dead, no warning and could not even jumpstart. I had to use a friend's battery to start and keep the car idling while putting my battery back. Drove back to Cape Town the night, switched off at home and it wouldn't start.
The beginning of this year I drove to Worcester to do some work and the evening drove back to Cape Town. Stopped off at a shop about 5km from home. Went into the store, got back to my car and it wouldn't start. Again no warning. Luckily a friend had a spare battery which started my car immediately so could replace the battery the following day.
But you maybe right. This battery could last another 3 years or i could buy a new "good make" battery and that could die in three years like the op above.

As a matter of interest, I contacted Deltec Power Distributors in Paarden Eiland and they do the Varta range of batteries with 2 yr warranty. A size 646 is R965 and a size 652 is R1148. They will test your system and as well as fit the new battery.

Duracell car batteries are now also available. They're brought in by Yokohama.
