Battlefield 2

I missed you guys! I couldn't really play this weekend, my son was teething, he'd never reallt sleep for more than 20 minutes in a shot :(

Been there. Twice.

* Booze
* Bat

Either of those will work. ;)
Who you apply it to is a matter of choice. :D

u can use daemon tools to mount a mini image and run the game with that.

I managed some nice frags this weekend, most of the damage was dne in anti-tank kit, but it has managed to get me 2/3 towards a promotion (my 1st)

Switching weapons and not being adept in the flying dept are my 2 weaknessess at present, or the biggest at least. Hopefully the switching and stuff will come with time.

Also, I was wondering if anyone here was also running and AMD 3000xp with 1GB DDR and Leadtek card - Nvidia 5700

If so, could you tell me what kind of Gfx setting your running successfully - i have set everything ti lowest rest to get more speed but would love to be rid of wireframe jets that keep kicking my butt!

::: EDIT ::: with 2/3 of the way to 1st promo I fear it's to late to change nicks. :(

I am running similar setup with a radeon 9600xt. No probs with everything full, well not everything but most. The Fx 5xxx were cr@p cards

yup get a new card a 6600 should do fine they around 1000 which isnt to bad

wow your run everything on high with 1024?

i got a 6800 le i run everything medium lighting low and AA set to 4x looks great

also 1 gigs of ram isnt enough get another 512 should help alot

i got a 3000 64 bit and omw i cannot tell you how great this cpu is
i wanted the 3200 but such a little performance gain thought why bother

yea that 5700 is a really kuk card though

Thanks for the info

I was on a serious budget when i bought my pc... I had been waiting 4 years to buy a pc for home and I won some money playing poker online, so I decided to throw what I had at the purchase.

Yes i did screw myself - DDR 400 limit and so on.... now, looking at upgrades I fear it may be a case of waiting another year to buy a new machine with 2GB DDR >400 (But 2GB of corsair is 4k :() and PCIe.

Or, but what I can knowing it will go into another pc sometime.

But all this considered I'll have to shell out another 8k which I don't have.

My hosting business is new and I have to look for some clients quick.

yeh just textures and lighting on medium with 2x AA. Runs like a dream

dont bother upgrading whole machine yours seems fine just get a agp 6600 for like a grand. problem solved

like killa said, at least look for a 6600GT or a 2nd hand 6800GT...

i also have an AMD 3200 XP slightly overclocked and a 6800GT and run all on high except for lighting with no AA. I think the Audigy 2 also makes a difference since it does take up some of the CPU strain in the sound related dept.

maybe with your current settings you would like to increase the virtual RAM settings... or get another 1GB for your rig if you can...

You guys are super

Thanks again for all the help.

The advice seems to point at 2 things:

  1. another 1Gb of RAM
  2. another AGP gfx board, preferably Authentic Nvidia 6800gt

Well, the mobo has 3 dimm slots, so I may be limited to adding only 1 new 512Mb dimm - unless i can run 2x512 and 1x 1Gb - but if i remember right this is a no no

for the ram, i am looking at

1x DDR400 - JetRam® DDR400 512MB - R 299
or
2x Corsair® 1024MB DDR400 184-Pin ValueSelect Desktop Memory - R 760 each

my graphics card options

1x Gigabyte® nVidia® GeForce 6800GT, 256MB 256Bit - R 2950
1x Gigabyte® ATI® Radeon X800 XL 256MB 256Bit - R 2800

Gfx board

are you referring to the

Gigabyte® nVidia® GeForce 6600, 256MB 128Bit

i can see a price of just over 1k - a hell of a lot easier to swallow that 2.7k for the 6800GT

go for that and one 512MB Module to give you 1.5GB of RAM... :D

Holy Smokes

Thanks, I think that will be the route to follow.

::: RAM :::
1x DDR400 - JetRam® DDR400 512MB - R 299
::: Graphics :::
1x Gigabyte® nVidia® GeForce 6600, 256MB 128Bit - R 1,095

Thanks for all the advice ppl i really appreciate it --> being out of touch with the hardware side of things for 3 years has left me feeling a bit stupid, what with all the new toys on the market.

BY THE WAY --- I just saw this puppy in the list

RX80L512V --> R 2,995
Gigabyte® ATI® Radeon X800XL 512MB 256Bit :eek:

That must be something special.

yeah, it's probably going to make me want to cry my heart out aint it?

The overall reviews of the 256MB 6600 GT Agp are not too shabby - but for me it's looking good as I'm a value-for-money shopper.

I think I may order tha RAM today and see if I can make some extra cash by finding 2 hosting clients to give me R600 each for their years hosting in advance and throw in support etc and 1 or 2 extras.

You know you play too much BF2 when:

You look down at work and see that your fingers instinctively rest on the W A S and D keys. :)
