lol w1z4rd :D

Don't worry about it. I'm pissed at EA too but only because they're alienating people who otherwise would have played the game. Preventing me from aquiring more victims... erm, I mean fellow gamers to play with. :p

The more I think about it the more EA is starting to look like a certain telecoms provider we know. I hope they're not taking tips.

Lets see .. pay like R300 for the game, and then get to watch adverts.

I don't think so. Definately not. This trend cannot be allowed to continue.

Game playing must not become like watching TV.

I will do everything in my power that I can to completely ruin EA's crappy marketing stats recording server.

It's not the in game advertising I have a problem with, it's the spyware they're installing to watch you when you're not playing that annoys me.

Do you play WOW by any chance ???.

Do you know what their "Warden" client does to your entire machine whilst you are playing ???.

It makes Sony's rootkit look like a rank amateur :).

Imagine loading a new episode of HalfLife 2 and being forced to watch an advert while the level loads ... think I am joking ... watch it ... that crap is coming soon.

Hmmmm, watch an ad or watch a little loading bar fill up. Tough decision.

perhaps a simple option that you can tick on/off adverts during installation would have sufficed from EA's part.

give us a choice and dont take Sony's approach at shoving what they want on us.

This all might not even be applicable to us anyway. Just got my copy and there was no piece paper saying anything about the spyware thingy.

Must only be in the US version of the game. Won't be sure till I install the game tho. Which won't happen till after work. :(

In game advertising could theoretically lower the production cost of games and therefor

A) The end user will pay less for the same marvelous game.

or

B) They will make more profits.

Lets hope its A.

Lets face it, its not going to be that big a deal to have a few banners here and there.
For example GTA SA. things would be more real with a 40 by 10 meter Pepsi or Coke banner than one with Rockstar.
But it could be hard to do that in BF.

I dont have a problem with in-game advertising (except spyware). Anything they can do to reduce their production costs, will surely be passed on the end consumer in some form (assuming there's healthy competition)

Advertising is a necessary evil, and I think its actually quite brilliant how its entering virtual spaces (where we gamers seem to be spending most of our time) ...in fact the ideas some of you guys had in this thread is a focus group facilitator's wet dream (commercials during gameplay or while loading...

Ads in virtual spaces is nothing new, think Audi in "I, robot" or aston martin in 007 movies, and so on...the trick is to do it in such a way that you don't piss off the end consumer...which EA obviously failed in

I have no clever answers for this.
Advertising and Adverts suck.
I don't want them in my games.

Thats like saying you don't want TELKOM in SA.
Scream youre lungs out and have a look at the difference that would make

At least in EA's case you can buy from a bunch of better game developer houses and you are not restricted to one major publisher. ;)
