Was wondering if anyone else is having endless problems with their BB8520 handset.
My wife is now having an issue entering her password ... when prompted, she tries to put in her normal code, but instead of showing **** it actually shows the letters, which results in message INCORRECT PASSWORD...
She has used 8/10 tries and hence we do not want to wipe the phone by using the incorrect password 10 times...

I phoned Vodacom 082155 helpline and he confirmed that due to the handset being 8520, he/Vodacom cannot help as it is Blackberry related as they are having INTERNATIONAL issues with that 8520.

MY problem is this, what the H#LL is Blackberry going to do about it ... my wife has over 13 months left on her contract, so if this handset is not supported by BB, then what !

I can now see why people are moving over to Iphones.....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

P.S. Tried her SIM in old handset (yes also a 8520) and it works, but for how long is the question .,.. Is there a way she can copy all her BBM contacts / SMS / photos from "broken" 8520 to "old" 8520 - she never used BB Protect before !
Thanks

plenty of people having BB problems. 4 of my family members cannot wait for the contract to finish to get a decent phone.
But people fall for their excellent BBM plan.
Another correction, people are moving over to android.

Sim contacts can be copied to another phone.
I'm guessing that most pics/vids are on the memory card, that can be copied/backed-up to a pc or other media device.

Its a contract phone? Send it in for repairs! Otherwise install the desktop manager on your PC and get that thing backed up and then update or reload the device software, and then send it in for repairs if it doesn't work.

Blackberry Desktop manager can do the backup and restore process from one BB to any other BB.

That sounds like the call centre trying to shift the blame to me.

When they do that I explain to them that Vodacom are the ones who have their fingers in my wallet and that as long as they are happy to take money out my bank account, I expect them to sort out any issues. If they believe that it's a BB fault, let them resolve it with BB.

thanks for everyone for their replies ... will be popping into V&A Vodacom tomorrow ... with regard to repairs, was thinking of taking it to berryfix but if it is BB then the handset will just crash again and hence concerned about throwing money for repairs into a bottomless pit !

Yes, it is contract phone with 13 months left on contract

After you have typed in the wrong password a couple of times, the Blackberry will start to show you the letters instead of *. This is normal. The only thing that I can think of is that the password she thought she was entering, was actually not the password - for example she thought she was entering numbers, but she was entering letters or vice versa.

Did you make backups of the phone? If you did, just go ahead and enter the password incorrectly. The phone will wipe itself and you can restore the data.

Got an 8520 as well, greatest day will be when I get something else and throw this one of a 10 story building (although I might have to throw mine into the sea as the tallest buildings here are 5).

Frequently web pages do not load, googling for information becomes impossible. I have to do at least 3 battery pulls a week to keep it going (every time having to wait 7.5 minutes for it to boot - timed it).

More and more the little spinning clock icon appears and I have to wait while my phone wasn't busy a few seconds ago, to where it's locked up for up to half a minute before I can use it.

I have been trying to load the web site, http://m.kalahari.com for the past ten minutes, even turned on my WIFI as BIS was useless (again, shocker!) and even though I have refreshed the page 5 times, turned off WIFI, I still have a blank screen before me with the words "Loading" at the bottom.

I sync my contacts, which a couple of weeks ago, used to loose people - who would then reappear days later.

Yesterday my whatsap would not run over BIS, would only use WIFI.

My only advice to people is to rather not get a Blackberry to this point.

Update !
Manage to unblock the handset using the Desktop Software ! Nevertheless, I promptly performed a backup ,,,,
Sorted for now - thanks
