thought" i would post this in case anyone has the same problem.
a friend of mine got home late last night with her kids after visiting her mother, walked into a home drenched in darkness.
she checks the meter 0.00 units available, so goes online and purchases electricity.
she enters the token numbers, the screen says "accept" - but the power remains off.
so she checks the meter, it has accepted the token and showing 65.3 units - but still no power.
i get a panic call.
i tell her to unplug the meter from the wall outlet & remove it's batteries - also to switch off the main switch on the distribution board - leave everything off for 5 minutes, then put the batteries back into the meter, plug it into the wall socket, let it power back on, then switch power back on at distribution board.
still nothing - darkness prevails, only option now it to call CoCT electricity dept.
they tell her it will take anything from an hour to 6hrs for someone to get there.
she is not keen on the dark, nor is her daughter - the son however, is having a great time !
can they come to my place, she asks, and soon enough they arrive.
45 mins later CoCT electricity dept calls - they are at her home (an apartment building).
so off we all go, back to her place to meet the CoCT guys.
her and the kids go upstairs, i go with the CoCT guy to the building's electricity distribution room.
we find her meter in the room - it has a red & green light on - neither are blinking.
CoCT guy tells me everything is good in there, and asks if the distribution board main switch is on - and are ant off.
call my friend - she confirms all switches are at the "on" position.
CoCT guy declares al is well in the distribution room downstairs, problem must be upstairs - may have to call an electrician
under all the meters for the apartments, is a long distribution board - a power switch for each apartment, hers is "on".
so i suggest we power off at the distribution board under the meters, and leave it off for two minutes, then power back on.
he seems not to agree, but to humour me, he switches off - and switches it back on after a minute or two.
my phone rings - power is back on upstairs !!
everyone is pleased, me less so.
CoCT guy dismissed my suggestion, instead recommending an electrician be called as the problem was upstairs !
so anyone having the e-10 error, and electricity has been successfully loaded and displayed on your meter inside your home:
1) power of the main switch on the distribution board inside your home.
2) if in an apartment building, arrange to power off at the building's main electricity distribution room where all meters are located - if you are in a house, go to the meter outside your house and power off there.
3) leave both off for two minutes or so, then power on at your main meter, then power on at the distribution board inside your home.
it is this type of meter (pic taken off the net - ignore the error code in the pic):
