Hi Guys

After being a Nokia user all my life, i upgraded to a BB 9700 yesterday. I'm very excited but i've just realised that even though i know what this phone can do, i dont know how to make it do it:confused:.

Please can you assist with the following probably stupid questions:

1. How do i change the DATE/TIME ? I know it should be set on Harare +2 but when i select 'Set Time' it doesnt allow me to physically change the time & date.

2. How do i know when my BIS has been activated ? Mtn told be 2-24hrs but how do i check

3. What settings do i need to change to make sure when i browse its through BIS ? I read somewhere that my APN settings should be on 'blackberry.net'. Will this only appear once my BIS has been activated?

4. How do i sycronise my work mail with BB? We are on MS Outlook. I did read somewhere that i need to register my email address on mtn.blackberry.com ?

5. How do i activate the GPS ?I'm on MTN

6. Is there anything else that i should know or change (settings, apps etc.) ?

Thanks in advance guys

Hey,

Yeh took me a long time looking at my Blackberry and thinking 'Now what?!'

1) Easiest to just let it auto update and use the network time, but if you want to manaully change it, go to options, then date/time and under the date/time where it says use network time select no, and then you can manually change the time.
2) Should get an sms or message, otherwise your connection in the top right should be capitals (ie. 3G, EDGE, instead of 3g or edge). Also will have a little blackberry icon in the top right.
3)Again in options, selected advanced options, then select tcp/ip , tick the first block next to APN Settings Enabled and under apn type blackberry.net
4)Easiest is to use the mail setup, you can also set up your mail via the http://www.mtn.blackberry.com/ page. To actually sync though I think you need the BES service.
5) Dial *123#, when the menu comes up select 1 (have to push alt key then w), and enter, then select 8 and enter. You'll get a sms with a link to download garmap.
6) Generally read the stickies at the top of the forums, they have some nice ideas of programs to get. But yeh mostly I think that's it.

I'm not adanced by any means so some of this might be able to be done better, but just my 2cents :).

Thanks for the info Bri, its been of great help. I have been loving my BB so far, i just have a few issues:

1. I'm still trying setting to up my work mail (MS Outlook) on my BB but i'm having a few issues. I have put through all the necessary settings etc. and even got a message saying that it has been successfully setup and i will receive emails on my BB in 20mins. I then keep getting another message saying that i need to update my password, which i do as instructed by it keeps rejecting my password (and yes i have double checked and i have been entering it properly). Please assist

2. Having trying with my Bluetooth. where do i get the password?

3. BB Messenger - how do i get my Pin ?

do you still need help? sorry this is delayed response but ya i only saw this topic now.
when you connect to a device using bluetooth you just put any password in (i think numbers) but put the same password on both phones.
BBmessenger you go to options on the phone menu and go to status, you'll see your battery meter and under that will be your pin.
