BB Playbook

If you're happy with your Playbook, good for you!

I think the Playbook would have been great if the BIS speeds were decent.

Free internet on a tablet alone is something that made me want a Playbook when I first heard about it. Sadly, BIS speeds dropped to between 40-80kbps for a close on a year ... with 'requesting site' happening about 80% of the time.

Although better over the last few weeks, it's made me realise that I need to get rid of RIM products ASAP and never touch them again

Man I hope someone releases an android OS that works on the PB.

So can anyone confirm that it uses the BIS on my BB for internet?

I was actually wondering if it has been seen in a shop and not online?

playbook help

hi

I noted with interest your comments on the PBook.
I bought one recently, also overseas at about same price, but now to get it all sorted!
1.Can you please help me on where / how to get the Android Kindle app downloaded; and which BB app do you also use for it, the one which came with it?
2. When I now paired it with my BB (9780) all works but for the browsing part- it just dont work. Is it 'blocked' on my MTN BIS/ BES package or is it a setting problem?

Overall I am impressed so far.
hope you can help, kind regards.

I have a Playbook and am extremely happy with it, especially after the OS2 release. I don't understand the noise about no apps, as I have found what I needed and more. I do use my Playbook for business applications more than gaming. I also use it as an e-reader, and have successfully loaded the Android version of the Kindle app, but I also use a Blackberry-specific app for that purpose. I just prefer the Playbook's size over that of the iPad and love that I can get access to my BIS internet with it. I recently bought the mini-hdmi to hdmi connector and now we can browse the internet using our Blackberry phones as remotes and the LED TV in the bedroom as our screen. Absolutely love it!

Madman88, have you tried reloading your OS? I don't have that much of a waiting time to restart it. Also, I can really recommend the charging pod over the included charger, it really speeds things up.

Edit: I also have to add that I bought mine in Canada while they were on special and only paid R2500. This obviously adds to my enjoyment of it! It's just amazing how overpriced things are in SA.

Hi justasking

Just to check, have you installed OS2 yet? This will determine if my answers below will work for you.

1. Although OS2 supports Android apps, it is still up to the developer of the app to port it to the Blackberry App world. Amazon has refused to do this for the Playbook (because of their Kindle Fire), so people have to sideload the Kindle app. You can find a Howto and links to the files that you need here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWjt...xt=C3e3c52aUDOEgsToPDskIeVGjW1NPRTcr7Vz1LMBSG . You can also find out more here: http://crackberry.com/how-sideload-android-apps-playbook-os-v20-use-android-app-player

2. I use MTN BIS through my Torch 9800 to browse on the Playbook with no problems, it is definitely not blocked. If you are still using OS1, you need to click on the "Bridge Browser" for the Playbook to use your MTN BIS. If you are using OS2, you can just use the normal browser as the Playbook can now automatically detect the bridge connection. Could you perhaps explain exactly how you connect? It's hard to help you without knowing all the details exactly...

I hope this helps?

Hi Mandm

thanks for responding - appreciated.
I have the latest version of OS2 installed, so that is not the problem.
1. Re Kindle- thanks I will check out the 2 sites.

2. Re BIS- I phoned MTN, according to them my services are all activated, i know tried getting in via bridge, but it still times out- still not sure why?.

I now tried the normal browser (wifi off phone linked via blutooth) and it seems to work, just slow, but signal where i am not good, only Edge strength.

many thanks so far.

Got the 16Gb one recently through a RIM developer offer. Awesome machine. Managed to pair it with my BB through bridge and although slow (appears to use BIS) for web browsing the messaging service works brilliantly. It really flies on WiFi. The Tablet OS browser is handsdown the best mobile web browser offering a true desktop experience and the multitasking is mind blowing. RIM has taken an unfair beating from ignorant iPad tools on this tablet because of the lack of apps (15000 currently in appworld) but who needs 20 variations of iFart apps.

I bridge browse while my phone is on 3G and I got no complaints with regards to speed.

New OS update last week.

Ya, no complaints of speed, only back on OS 1.0 days

Had mine for ages now. Still very happy with it. I use it for watching video, reading ebooks, a bit of video recording, email, web browsing, etc. I still don't know what else an iPad would offer me that I don't already have.
