BBC Primetime launching on SABC 3

BBC Studios and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) have announced a new two-hour content block on SABC 3 (S3) and SABC+, which will feature a selection of award-winning dramas, factual entertainment, and documentaries from the BBC Studios catalogue.

The programming will be available to watch on weeknights between 21:00 and 23:00 through BBC Primetime, broadcast on S3 and streamed on SABC+ from May 2024.

There used to be more BBC back when I used to watch analogue TV via an antenna. It is high time there was less onslaught by US based Hollywood (which has highlighted a less than savoury culture and fixation with shiny expensive items, violence, etc).

My inner sinnic says that this will last 6 months before the BBC cancel the contract due to non-payment.

SABC can't afford to produce local shows anymore because they stole all the money. They can't buy shows from US studios because they are probably so in debt to them the US studios will no longer deal with the SABC.

So the BBC is the next target. These shows seem pretty old and the BBC being a public broadcaster probably doesn't charge as much for its old shows as privately owned studios do. Plus the SABC bigwigs think they are "sticking it to the colonists" by secretly planing to not pay for the service.

My inner optimist hopes that they being the back catalogue of Doctor Who to the SABC so more people can be inspired by the Doctor to do good in the world.

“The deal allows us to bring back some of the iconic BBC titles to our viewers which formed weekly habitual viewing, with Top Gear being the most notable one.”

Perfect fit those early seasons were in SD :p

BBC? Pfft, can watch that for free on the Hub.

Most probably all on 4:3 aspect ratio.
